Starting Over When Bush Is Gone

At 29% Bush's popularity is now somewhere below Nixon's and just above

venereal disease...The inescapable force of public contempt has fallen

on the White House like a darkening storm-cloud. The neocon

master-plan is unraveling like a spool of yarn skittering across the

kitchen floor. The Bush Reich is moving ever-closer to doomsday.

Remembering The Haymarket Martyrs

Every now and then events transpire that cut through the rhetoric, the

carefully contrived images purveyed in the press and historical texts,

and reveal a nation's dark soul in grim detail. Such an event occurred

in the streets of Chicago on May 4, 1886. It was an event for which

four innocent men were hanged. Out of the chaos and mayhem arose the

first labor unions and the eight hour work day.

Paranoia, Depression, Or A World Of Hope:

We live in a nation dominated by fear. That fear arises from the

economic insecurity that permeates our society and from the disowned

destructiveness of American society, instead ascribed to our

" enemies. " We can either continue to fear, be immobilized in

self-attack and hopelessness, or acknowledge our destructiveness,

accept the world's uncertainty, and transform it into a constructive

force for creating a better society.

Nancy Pelosi Forfeits The Constitution

With House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi telling us that Democrats will

not try to impeach Bush now or later, we have an admission that the

rule of law is now dead in America. At least it's dead with Nancy

Pelosi. She wants to appease us with legislative perks. Her strategy:

It doesn't matter that we've lost the Constitution, we'll make it up

to you with a better drug prescription plan.

More Bloody Than Carrie: Bush's Revenge On The National Guard

Like the plot of that old horror movie, Bush was humiliated by the

National Guard and now he is getting his revenge. He's already

desimated them by deploying them to Iraq without adequate body armor.

And now he wants what's left of them to trudge along our borders in

140-degree heat. What's next after that?

The Dollar's Evil Twin: Exploring The Bush Bureaucracy's Private

money from the Federal reserve? How sad.

Stop The Sale Of Our National Forest

WE MUST STOP President Bush from selling off our national forest

America De-hypnotizes Itself And The GOP Runs Scared

Bush is hanging on to majorities in only three of the so-called " Red "

States. Clearly —the nation has turned against Bush and with him —the

GOP. At least one article stated that people don't just dislike Bush

—they hate him. Given the public's " wrong track, right track "

responses, Bush has no where to do but ever downward.

Politics, Or Insanity? By Molly Ivins

I hate to raise such an ugly possibility, but have you considered

lunacy as an explanation? Craziness would make a certain amount of

sense. I mean, you announce you are going to militarize the Mexican

militarizing the border. You announce you are sending the National

Guard, but then you assure everyone it's not very many soldiers and

just for a little while.

Bush's Half Measures

Bush seeks to pacify a range of constituencies—from the conservative

base threatened both economically and culturally, to the big

wish to send a clear, distinctive signal of deepening concern. " -- Lt.

Gen. James Helmly

Heckuva Job, Dubya

The real mission of the 6,000 National Guard troops he has called out

is to quell the rebellion on the President's right flank, the flaring

mutiny of his own conservative base. Indeed, if the President were

being honest, the newly mobilized troops would be taken off the

Federal payroll and moved onto the books of the 2006 national

Republican campaign.

Displaced Gain Sway In New Orleans Vote

This city's thousands of displaced residents, virtually ignored by the

candidates since the primary election for mayor last month,

nonetheless appear set to play a significant role in Saturday's runoff
