Connecticut and Louisiana pass DU Legislation

Now two state legislatures have passed laws calling for DU testing for

their returning troops. Six other states are debating similar legislation.

If you want to do something about DU, see if you can get your state

legislature to pass similar laws in your state.

Working close to home is often more effective than trying to convince

our elected officials in Washington to do anything productive.

Dr. Jawad Al-Ali is calling for financial help to fund the first

epidemiological screening effort in Basrah, Iraq. DU has long been

suspected as the cause for exploding cancer rates and birth defects in

this region since it was used there in the First Gulf War. PLEASE

SUPPORT THIS EFFORT. Contact IDUST for further information: info

The International Coalition to Ban Uranium Weapons (ICBUW) held its

third annual meeting this June (6/23/05) in Brussels. Petitions

calling for a world-wide ban containing over 150,000 signatures were

presented to the European Union Parliament.

Dr. Doug Rokke has emphasized (12/28/04) to all organizations working

for a ban on uranium weapons to keep hammering on the fact that by

using DU weapons the DoD and MoD are violating their OWN regulations,

namely environmental remediation and medical care (US Army Reg. AR

700-48; US Army Tech. Bulletin TB 9-1300-278, and other medical orders

going back to 1991).

The International Criminal Court in the Hague is seriously considering

allegations of war crimes leveled against UK, with DU specifically

mentioned as one of the areas of negligence (12/18/04).

Charges against Dennis Kyne, DU activist with Veterans for Peace,

stemming from his participating in public protests at the Republican

Convention in NY were dismissed (12/17/04). Richard (Nibby) David's

trial in UK in which he is suing for compensation for failed health

after working with DU in an aircraft plant has been adjourned until

April while Nibby consolidates newly obtained evidence supporting his

case (12/10/04).

Independent Media TV reports on Gulf War I veteran Matt Rohman who

claims to have been exposed to DU dust and who became ill on returning

from Iraq, suffering continual fatigue, severe joint pains and

numbness in extremities, and eventually asthma-like symptoms.

Italy is beginning to worry about DU. In spring 2004, the widow of

Stefano Melone, a deceased veteran's who became ill after military

service in the Balkans, was awarded 500,000 Euros (app. $600,000)

compensation for his death due to " exposures resulting from service " .

Shortly after this, the Italian news began reporting that many of

these veterans were suffering from lymphomas and cancer. In December,

an official commission has been set up to look into allegations that

DU exposure is responsible for these illnesses.
