Guest guest
Hey Chris, > Hiya Butch :-) > > Have you heard of any contraindications to pregnant women using a > drop or two of oregano oil internally? NO .. not if they have had no problems with Oregano when they were not pregnant. There are no warnings from doctors or any other source that preclude pregnant women from eating Oregano or any sauces, etc., that contain Oregano .. or any other FDA Approved GRAS spice or oil .. but you know my stand on advising folks to ingest EOs .. I don't advise .. because I'm not a medical doctor. I provide testimonials .. ;-) But sprucing up a good lentil soup with a couple of drops of Oregano EO only improves the flavor of the soup .. and incidental to that, one can get some mighty powerful therapeutic value from that tasty soup. > My little one brought home some preschool kid cooties to me and usually > I'd zap something like that right away with a couple drops of oregano > oil internally, but I wanted to see if you'd heard of any > contraindications about that .. I'm reasoning that it is used as a > flavoring in commercial jarred spaghetti sauce, so how dangerous can it > be, but figured I'd put the question out there for the heck of it . Right you are on the seasoning for foods ... I sell one heckuva lotta Oregano to Italian Food Producers. BUT .. I'd not think that zapping lice from the inside rather than the outside is a little much in this case. If it were microbial critters, then a Big Bad Bug Butt Kicker like Oregano would be more appropriate .. but seems to me that getting rid of the cooties is but a part of the problem cause the nits remain. I doubt the effectiveness of ingestion of any EO against nits cause the little boogers got some pretty hard shells .. nature protects them too. Course .. I remember a buddy who used to drink a quart of Wild Turkey Bourbon every day .. he said skeeters didn't bit him cause they were afraid of getting drunk and flying into things and such. Makes sense. > Thanks for any info! Welcome you are .. and this is but the first of MANY bouts you're gonna have with those 8-Laigs .. been that way since the beginning of time and I think this is a case where your need to make your own concoction. The Turks use plain old unrefined X-Virgin Olive Oil .. they cover the head and wrap it, leave it on all night and then wash it off with a normal shampoo. Do this two days they do. And it works. Using EO on the head is NOT dangerous if you stay within the safe limits to avoid irritation .. and those limits are outlined in the ONLY safety manual in print on scientifically tested dilutions of EOs - Martin Watt's " Plant Aromatics, " which happens to be out in the revised edition for $34.90 .. old edition containing less information was $75. And the publisher and exclusive dealer for Plant Aromatics in North and South American is an ol' retired US Army Redneck named Butch Owen. It can be seen and ordered at http://www.av-at.com/plantaromaticsavnp.html Why do I say its not dangerous? Imagine trying to force water back up into a fawcet. That's what you'd have on the head cause its full of sweat glands and ducts and pores and there is a mighty amount of pressure there. So absorption is not an issue .. even for those who mistakenly think that EO absorbs intact. Regardless of what some novels claim (Shirley Price comes to mind) the pores are one-way channels for the release of water and salts, they do not allow absorption of essential oils. They oils will stop and when sweat comes out .. the oils will be forced out ahead of it. An EO can't mix with water (sweat) unless emulsified and even then, it couldn't happen in the aqueous and salty medium of sweat. They could, however, mix in the sebaceous glands but that's a horse of a different color and even then, the issue of absorption has to be dealt with. But then .. if we're talking about ingestion .. you cares about absorption in the second place? ;-p Now .. if you wanna see what Lowanna Veal has written based on her own research and that of others .. you'll find that Anise Seed and Oregano were the most powerful EOs to kill the adults and the nits .. its at http://www.wingedseed.com/Agora/Lice_page.htm > *Smile* > Chris (list mom) > http://www.alittleolfactory.com Y'all keep smiling .. :-P Butch http://www.AV-AT.com Bulk/Wholesale/Retail GC Tested EOs, Rose Otto, Hydrosols, and other nice goodies shipped to you from downtown Friendsville, MD .. pop.
