Guest guest
Hey Margaret, Last post I'm gonna make afore I sleep cause its 5:30 in the morning. > I was hoping to get some information on five fold valencia orange > essential oil. It is supposed to be concentrated and have the > " terpene " (sp) removed. Even if I didn't know which list you have been on .. I would now know based on your comments on Wintergreen and now this one. ;-p One of the reasons my PC crashes a lot is cause I keep a lotta records .. maybe a holdover from my CYA days as a cop. On 11 May 2001, somebody asked me the same question you have above - and a few days afore that, that same somebody told me that they were told on a particular list that I was fulla crap and they had REAL Wintergreen for sale. They've done it again too .. ;-p The references I used when I discussed Wintergreen are from Plant Aromatics .. a compilation of data researched over many years by Martin Watt, Cert. Phyt. Medical Herbalist & Essential Oil Educator. The primary source of the research was the R.I.F.M. (Research Institute for Fragrance Materials) and their sister organisation the I.F.R.A. (International Fragrance Research Association). These organizations collect safety data on essential oils in a number of ways: they gather scientific information and assess it, member companies report adverse reactions to materials to them, and if necessary, they in turn circulate warning notices to member companies. Y'all can review and order the Revised Edition of Plant Aromatics at this URL: http://www.av-at.com/plantaromaticsavnp.html Or .. you can go to the library and research the back issues of Food and Chemicals Toxicity for the past 30 plus years. But if you are short on time, acquiring the reference set is a good thing to consider. ;-p The person telling all this stuff is a soap maker/supplier of soaping goodies - they're NOT into aromatherapy or essential oils beyond that point. But its obvious that there has been no change in their line of thinking since May 2001. So .. here is the same answer I gave in May 2001. Folded oils are oils (usually citrus) that have been redistilled a number of times to remove more of the chemicals, usually monoterpenes, to make the oil more desirable for the flavouring industry. They have no use in aromatherapy as they are not natural - the oil is no longer a whole oil .. it has been manipulated by man .. there is no longer a natural synergy. But then .. folks who use FOs in soaps should not be concerned with using manipulated EOs in soaps either. This was in reply to the statements below: > " We've had several requests for information about the 5-fold Valencia Orange > oil we're now stocking. Basically, most folks want to know exactly what a > " folded " oil is. Folded oils are concentrated citrus oils. They offer > several benefits. Through distillation, the turpenes are removed, thereby > rendering the folded oil safe for use in leave-on products such as lotions. > The concentrated scent offers resistance to oxidation -- the fragrance lasts > longer! " So .. above is the explanation of the person selling the oil. And one can say an oil is " concentrated " if you remove some of the naturally occuring chemical components from the oil. > Sure would appreciate the knowledge, thanks in advance. Margaret You got it .. ;-p Y'all keep smiling, Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
