Guest guest
First off - a peri bottle is a best friend. Use that when urinating to help reduce sting. Plain water, or herbal tea can be used in the bottle (see list of herbs below). Patting dry is preferable to wiping dry. Cold packs followed by a warm bath can be very helpful for easing perineum pain. Freezing a washcloth (with a witch hazel solution) can be very useful for this purpose. There are also warming herbal perineum pads available out there Herbal Post Partum sitz baths are wonderful. Here are some ingredients that can be used in a blend for a healing post partum sitz " tea " : shepherd's purse uva ursi comfrey leaves and roots plantain sea salt calendula (marigold) flowers st. john's wort leaf lavender flowers fresh garlic myrrh ginger slippery elm violet flowers aloe vera rosemary yarrow For a nice post partum perineum soak 1-2 drops cypress, 1-2 drops lavender, 1-2 drops geranium in a sitz bath can be used. Those oils (and the sitz baths in general) will help stop bleeding, help tighten the stretched tissue and help any wounds heal without infection. Remember, it takes at least several weeks for the area to get back to normal, longer if there was tearing and/or stitches. *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com
