I just got my first vericose vein (ouch!) and that's how mine looks--a bruise the size of a quarter on my upper thigh. I'm not sure if there's anything to put on it that's good but not crossing your legs, support pantyhose, no high heels, and sitting with your legs on a pedastool instead of bent off the end of the chair are all tips that I know of.
