Guest guest
Anya [mccoy] [snipped] Gotta talk about the movie. It's the true story of a musicologist who, in the early 1900s, travels to Appalachia and discovers that the people there have a song culture, and that the songs are unchanged from England, Ireland and Scotland 200-300 years previously. Pure and unevolved, a historical find. The voices of the actors, and their accents are fabulous. You really feel you are *there*. I've rarely seen such a well-done movie, full of interesting and believable characters. It was on HBO, which I'm getting free until the 20th, but I have no way of knowing if it's going to be on there again, as I wish I had taped it. If you ever see it listed, watch, you'll love it, I guarantee.------------ LOVED that movie!!! It's available on tape, BTW -- we rented it to watch at home. Here are a couple of reviews: http://www.nyjournalnews.com/reviews/rev_songcatch_2001.html http://www.vanguardrecords.com/Songcatcher/movie.html The movie is available for sale, as is the soundtrack. Butch, if you're truly interested, I'd be happy to acquire & ship. Jeanine, in cold and cloudy Seattle --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. " ;-p ROFLMAO!!! Most years, I would say that's pretty close to the truth. This year, however, we've seen so much of the sun, we were thankful to finally see clouds and rain. Sure has been nice for my lip balm & cream sales, tho. Jeanine --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Guest guest
Anya & all~ I thought that was a great movie too. I took lots of folks to see it when it played here. Univeristy types who had only heard me talk of Appalachia, my parents, etc. I was going to recommend it to my mother, cept for the lesbians in the movie, I would. I thought of that when I took my Dad, he said well " a couple of spinster schoolhouse teacher " , he never batted a eye. Then I realized the old expression he, my grand dad and my great grand dad, had always used rather than say lesbian. ( Remember thinkings as a child Miss whoever and Miss Atthetime never taught school.) Mom would just get up and leave the room and miss the whole point of the movie. Well you know her better than I, but it is rentable now so perhaps there could be a time. I love the song track and wore out one CD. Reckon I play it when I get home sick for the mountains. It is a most uplifting place to walk, lightens the spirit and the soul. The movie Songcatcher and the CD are the second best thing to walking a country mile in the mountains. May every one enjoy at least one true country holiday even if you never make it to the mountain.

I ordered it from half.com for less than the $69.99, but more than " free. " :-p Ah well, that is too, too typical of me. FYI, I usually find the books & /or movies I want at half.com for less than Amazon. Jeanine --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
