Guest guest
I posed THIS question on idma, would be curious to hear reactions here: Question for ya, or a couple, do you thing that this day will ever be made into a " holiday " ? Do you think it should be? A day to remember ALL victims of terrorism, not just the WTC victims. Not just Americans, but Germans, Britions, Chinese, Japanese, Saudi Arabians, Isralies, Afghans etc. It struck me this morning, as I came on my computer and started to do some work and actually noticed that I didn't feel entirely RIGHT, that perhaps one way to make remembering this day is NOT " Business as Usual " , but to actually turn this day into one of " Real Remembrance " where we think not only of our own people who were killed, but people who are killed every day, by the violence of others who try to force their opinions on ANY 'non-believer' in thier cause. Guest guest
It hit me about the time I saw the buses full of kids on their way to the elementary school down the road from me that this really isn't a " real " holiday. I was actually very surprised that the schools were in session ( I wonder how many people kept their children home with them today?) and that it WASN " T declared a holiday already. IMHO- I don't think it should be " business as usual " -- I think that today should be declared a holiday in memorial of those who lost their lives due to terrorism (of any kind in any nation). I'm not sure that I believe that anything would happen today but even the thought of my husband going to work and ending up in one of the big gov't buildings in Atlanta churns my stomach. As for me.. I'm spending the day crocheting hats for the troops " over there " as part of a project I am involved in. It's called Ship Support, and we send knit, crochet, and sewn items to the men and women who are defending our country. ~*~ Hawke ~*~
Guest guest
Yes, the word " Holiday " is out of place. I would like to see a " World Peace Day " or a " Day of Hope and Remembrance " I find it odd how this day has affected me. My circle of friends and family is small. No one I knew died, and no one I know personally (I'm not talking internet friends), knew anyone who died there or in a plane or at the Pentagon. So, I and mine, are untouched. Or so I thought. Now I find that I was not as removed from it as I thought I was. Apparently I am affected by the " Humanity " of it all. It's nice to know, that under this Queen Bitch exterior there is a remnant of " human feelings " left! ;-) K Cheers Kathleen Petrides The Woobey Queen: Woobey tip: http://www.woobeys.com
Guest guest
I wasn't going to say anything about this today, but since Kathleen asked, I wanted to put my two cents in. If everybody today made written note of the time, money, effort, energy & thought spent today (9-11-02) on this tragedy, they could then make a personal pledge that every year on Sept. 11, to spend the same amount (or more) of time, money, effort, energy & thought to helping at women's crisis centers, animal shelters, writing letters for people in nursing homes, donating money to those or to their local fire/police departments to purchase needed equipment, just THINK of the difference " a day " could make. I just think that would have a lot more impact and help more in the " healing process " than another day at the lake with a 6-pack. (Not that that's a bad thing!) I just think it would be neat to do something " different " with this day, to meaningfully memorialize those who were lost. JMHO! Guest guest
Yes, I could go with that, not perhaps a holiday, but certainly a day of remembrance for all those we have lost through violence Ann - Scotland I posed THIS question on idma, would be curious to hear reactions here: Question for ya, or a couple, do you thing that this day will ever be made into a " holiday " ?
