Guest guest
Oh Margaret, I am just now getting around to reading my mail and found this. Please let me give you a message for your friend. I have had PseudoTumor Cerebri for 7 years. And for the last five years I've been in remission. It is very unusual to hear of someone recovering from this strange disorder, but I am one of them. I had spinal taps, vision testing every month, multiple doctors 'teaming' up to plan my treatment, and I researched and read everything I could find on it. I started Diamox (the medication that treats the cranial pappilidema) at 250mg a day and increased every week until I reached 2000mg twice a day which seemed to be the level that enabled me to function. Anyway, we aren't sure what helped, but I'm definitely symptom free today with the exception of my vision. I did have permanent vision damage but it seems to be halted for now. When the Diamox is increased it's awful, each time it took me several days to adjust to it with nausea and other symptoms, but then it leveled off and was okay until the next increase. It's tough. I wish your friend the best, I wish there was a cure for this horrible rare disorder. There is no telling when mine might return, and of course everytime I have a headache I'm quite nervous. The headaches were extremely dibilitating. There is a good support group on line but I can't remember the name of it now, a search on would probably find it. There is an increasing number of teenagers and young children being diagnosed with it. :/ Tell your friend that aromatherapy, herbal teas, relaxation techniques, rest, and avoiding stress are important. And take the medication. How nice to have a concerned and thoughtful friend like you! Oh, I also wanted to say that even though she says she doesn't like lavender, a calming/relaxing blend that contains lavender would be good and she probably wouldn't even recognize the lavender in it.
