Ya know, My mom grew up saying the pledge of allegience WITHOUT the " Under

God " stuff. She remembers when it was put in, during McCarthy's time as a

shot at the big bad commies, a show of " We can whip your butt because we have

God on our side " sort of thing.

 

You ask her to recite it, and she still say's it without the Under God part.

 

Just an observation....

Well, I guess my little back-water schools didn't get the news till about 1962,

because I remember the teachers telling us in third grade that we had another

couple of words to plug into the pledge. And that was in 1963.

 

The histories of how " god " was put into our pledge, and on our currency, is very

interesting. The stories are shades of Ashcroft. Scary stuff.
