Since June 8, I have watched - from a distance, in horror as the fires in Colorado raged, knowing the beautiful country that was going up in smoke. In 1995, my husband and I bought a " piece of heaven " just across the road from Crystal Peak, near Lake George, CO, thinking maybe we could retire there. (We still plan to, even though now it resembles a moonscape.) In 1997, we vacationed there and traveled extensively, through all of the area that is now burned. You cannot imagine the extent of the loss, absolutely beautiful lands, plus all of the wildlife. Tonight they have evacuated the town of Show Low, and later tonight or in the morning they will evacuate Pinetop, Lakeside and Hondah. These are old, established communities - tens of thousands of people evacuated, and in some of the most beautiful country of Arizona. Where the trees are 300-400 years old. Were. There is nothing to stop this fire, until the trees are gone. There is a slurry bomber base here in my town, and they have been flying seven tankers non- stop all week, and they aren't making a dent in this fire. My purpose - is, when you are doing whatever you believe in, I would like to ask you to consider praying for relief to come to the southwest and our beautiful lands. Rain - without lightning, many gentle snows this winter, to help heal the earth out here. We are in the worst drought in 118 years, probably longer, but that was when they began keeping records. Our humidity level hovers around 8% - some of you may recall me asking a couple of months ago, what was it like to live in humidity. Our trees in our forests contain approximately 8% moisture - kiln dried lumber that you buy at the lumberyard contains nearly twice that much.
