Guest guest
Hey y'all, > Tuscon-October contact Lynda - conference Kathleen means .. the conference I mentioned to be held in Phoeniz. ;-p > typing with one hand How you do that Kathleen .. I have problems with two hands .. :-( Here's some info on it .. from a post Lynda made on Idma today in response to questions from the one-handed typist above .. ;-D THE FIRST ANNUAL AROMATHERAPY UN-CONFERENCE " Okay, admit it, the parts that you really, really love most about Aromatherapy conferences is the chance to re-connect with old friends and make new contacts, meet friends from the internet for the first time, sit down over a good meal and great conversation, learn new things, and shop for oils and other great Aromatherapy stuff. The part you don't like about conferences is the expense: Not only do you have to get there, but then you have to pay a fortune for the conference itself, the rooms, the meals and the display space. And with the current state of Aromatherapy politics at the moment, some of you don't feel that you can attend the big conference of the year. So what we propose is this: an Un-Conference. Come to Tucson the weekend of October 18th, 19th and 20th, when the weather is still gorgeous and you can still get in some quality time by the pool. The rooms are suites with kitchenettes. The large suite, which sleeps up to four people, has a separate sitting room and a conference price of 49.99 a night. Yes, I did say that. The sitting room is quite large enough for you to set up your own mini-shop and peddle your wares to those of us who love to buy. We can rent tables to make this much easier for you. The small suite is 39.99 a night for this conference. This also has a kitchenette, and the sitting room and bedroom are all in one, like a studio apartment. A complimentary breakfast is served each morning at the pool. There is a grocery store right across the street so you can keep some munchies in the room for midnight attacks, or eat and entertain in your room to save on meals. There are six restaurants within walking distance, probably twenty more within two blocks of the hotel, and plenty of nightlife to be had. Anyone who wishes to speak at the Un-Conference can put in a proposal to do so. Vendors will be lightly screened to keep out the less than serious. All those who wish to attend will be asked to propose three or four topics for discussion. We will then take the nine most popular topics, and schedule a two-hour open discussion of each. No one standing up front lecturing, but two hours of lively conversation - questions, answers, and friendly debate - on topics we would all love to get together and talk about. Side trips can be arranged to see the Biosphere II, and the Tucson Botanical Gardens. There are also two large wholesalers of carrier oils here in Tucson, and we can check into either arranging a visit to them, or having them come talk to us and display their wares. There would be a limited number of appointments available to have Spa Services while you are here, so you can relax with an Aromatherapy facial, Reflexology treatment, or Massage at a discount from regular prices. We can arrange a sunrise hike through Sabino Canyon. There will be some minimal fee for the Un-conference which will go towards administration fees and supplies for the conference. We will have a better idea in a month or so, as we see what kind of response we get. Contact Lynda or Graham Sorenson at mail and let us know if you are interested. If we can get enough people together we will be able to have a fantastic time with good friends, buy wonderful quality Aromatherapy goods, and attract new and old clients to our businesses. We look forward to seeing all of you there. " UNQUOTE Now keep in mind that the NAHA Conference in Seattle in September is $850 for a single booth .. and best as I can remember, its around $300 or so for entrance. The Un-Conference will be held at the Flamingo Suites on Oracle Rd. http://www.flamingosuitestucson.com .. and as best as I can recall, that's where the IAHA held a real sorry conference in March 2001 - the hotel was great but the conference was a FLOP. Chris Ziegler and I and Chris Flahiff, Stacey Miller, Sheryon Hill and Paula Warren .. and maybe other folks who are now members of Oils & Herbs attended .. nice to meet the folks we talk with on-line. You can see photos of the conference at http://pages.ivillage.com/butch_owen/index.html Y'all keep smiling, Butch http://www.AV-AT.com

Also, when I put out the info I had the wrong month (!) and we had to change the weekend as well. SO it is OFFICIALLY September 27-29. As mentioned in the original post to the other lists, there are small fees for vendors and attendees so that we can cover our costs for advertising, set-up, rentals, etc. Hey! Thanks for mentioning it here for us! We really appreciate it! If anyone out there is wanting to be a vendor, there are only a FEW spaces left... ALREADY! Best wishes- Lynda
