Hey Janine,

> A water, a hydrosol, a rose by any other name is still....

> <g> rose H2O.

Might could be .. depending on how one wants to look at it .. and what

their intentions are .. and that is the problem. Some sellers want to

look at it as being a different product so they call their's floral

waters or rose water or some other off-the-wall name .. and it is NOT a

hydrosol or hydrolate that exited from a still .. its a conglomeration

of crap mixed with distilled water. It does NOT contain both the water

soluable and non-water soluable parts of the plant. So .. it is not a

true hydrosol or hydrolate but they can play word games and make profit.

If people want to become proficient in any subject, and wanna talk to

and be understood by other folks who are also interested, they have to

agree on a terms and the terms hydrosol and hydrolat are the terms the

professionals have agreed to use .. rose water and floral water are not

because they have double meanings and if you get the wrong thing you can

say you have been shafted. But sometimes it takes a shafting for folks

to learn a good lesson .. ;-)

Same applies for Oil of Oregano .. terms used by one feller who spends a

lot of time on the radio .. he avoids use of the term essential oil

because his product is diluted something like 5% EO in 95% olive oil.

But in English, the ONLY acceptable terms that can accurately substitute

for essential oil is volatile oil.
