I live in Florida also - have only been able to find 151 proof *grin*

When a recipe calls for vodka as a tincture as 80 proof being the norm (

although this can overkill some herbs or be too weak for a few ) I run to

everclear. Vodka is half water/half alcohol. Everclear at 190 proof is pure

alcohol. At 151 is 90 proof. They are about the same price for vodka. So

pay the same price for pure alcohol, not water and alcohol - and add your own

water to the everclear. Must more cost effecient, and then you can control

the formulas to the herbs' individual needs.

I had mentioned to my husband needing some pure grain alcohol for my new

hobby. He called today to ask me what kind of moonshine I wanted...blueberry

or peach? We decided on peach!

Hi Michelle,

Everclear is 190 proof grain alcohol.

I use it for perfume making and to clean my diffusers.

As far as I know, you cannot purchase it in Ohio without

proper licensing. I either get mine from a local micro brewery

(they use it to clean the stills) or when I go out of state.

You probably don't want to use isoprophyl because it has its own aroma that

is IMO not compatable with perfume :-)

how is your staying power, if you make fragrance? Mine fades after a couple

hours. Is this normal?

Re: everclear

I wouldn't....Isopropyl may add its scent and really

mess up your perfume. When I am out of Everclear

I just use vodka with the highest proof available.

I have even used cheap vodka (diluted) and have

had good results with that.
