Guest guest
Mullein Extract I take a Quart canning jar, fill it with leaves, after you have washed them with water and dried them. I pack the leaves into the jar, then fill the jar with Everclear. Depending on which state you live in, you may have to sign a form and tell them what your doing with it (Everclear). Which is the case while we were living in PA. Keep the jar in a dark cool place for 3 weeks. When I remember to do so, shake the jar once a day. After three weeks, I strain the Everclear through a filter. I find that paint filters (from a paint store) work pretty good and are not as slow as coffee filters. Now you have a choice, you can either store this extract in a dark colors bottle or repack the quart jar with another batch of Mullein leaves and pour the Everclear from the first batch over them, you may have to add more fresh Everclear to fill the jar. And now do the whole thing again. The extract will be stronger the second time around, but a single batch is strong too. When I need to use it, I use 35-50 drops (depending on how I feel at the time) in a 1/4 glass of water. Hold it in your mouth as long as you can before swallowing it will help the Mullein get into your blood stream faster. Don't ever give this to a child under 12! And depending on your weight you may want to use less to start with. You can always take more. With the Everclear you can use fresh or dried herbs for an extract. I have found that with the Everclear, that even using dried leaves of Mullein or any other leaf plant, the extract's always turn out green. On the other hand, an oil made from Mullein flowers is the best thing I have ever used for an ear infection. You feel improvement quicker then with a prescription drug, and it's safe for the little ones too.

Guest guest
Everclear is grain alcohol sold in liquor stores in some states. If I'm correct it's 190 proof or 95% alcohol. A boss of mine used to pour it in his carburetor to start his car. It's not sold in Florida - the highest proof I can get is 153. Talk to you later. Guest guest
Would you fill me in on mullein. I searched the web and couldn't find any info (probably didn't look hard enough). Is an oil available and would it be processed the same way with everclear? There is no alcohol in my home and I won't go purchase any just to make up an oil or anything else for that matter. Guest guest
Most store bought extracts are safe for everyone and can be taken directly without being diluted. Coarse if your giving the store bought to the little one's you do need to dilute it. The following is a safe bet for giving herbs, tea's and extracts to the little one's: The following was taken from " How To Be Your Own Herbal Pharmacist " By Linda Rector Page. The body knows how to use herbs. Give them time. They are working. (Adult does 1 teaspoon to 1 cup water) Child dosage is as follows: 1/2 dose for children 10-14 years 1/3 dose for children 6-10 years 1/4 does for children 2-6 1/8 does for infants and babies (1/8 teaspoon to 1 cup water) Drink medicinal teas in small sips throughout the day rather than all at once, during a sixteen hour period will allow absorption of the liquid without passing before it has a chance to work. Boil the water, remove from heat, then add the herbs and cover for 15- 25 minutes. The use of distilled water or pure spring water for increased herbal strength and effectiveness. Do not use aluminum pans or teapot. Mix up an herbal combination, of herbs you think will be useful, using the same amount of each (like one teaspoon of each herb). {I use a blender or coffee grinder to mix the herbs} then you'll use 1 or less teaspoon from that mix for the tea. Catalyst are usually employed as carriers to put the active ingredients into the body quickly and with optimum absorption. they normally comprise about 5-10% of a formula. ****************************************************************************** ************ Getting back to the homemade extract, being made with Everclear will give a stronger punch, that's why I don't recommend it to the little one's. And yes, like homeopathy, the longer you hold it in your mouth, the faster you'll find it to work for you. Good Luck, Rick
