Guest guest
Greetings As an Australian, I would prefer if you tried to ship them legally. The Australian Customs are harsh on all plants, animals, etc because we have managed to keep many diseases that affect plants and animals out, and I for one wish to keep it that way. Hey Jane, > I have all these lovely north-facing hills here that would look > really great covered in Turkish Rosa damascena plants - reckon we > could slip some past Australian customs ;-? You want a ton or two we'll make it happen .. ;-p Ain't gonna slip'em past the rascals, gonna slide'em right through their system. Don't have no idee what your law reads, but unless it was written by Solomon his danged self, it got holes in it. Turks swore it was prohibited to take them out of here .. used words like " national treasures, " and the like. Got down to nitty-gritty and fine line, the prohibitions covered seeds and pods and buds and flowers and nuts and fruit and so and so .. but nowhere was it prohibited to ship roots or cuttings cause they ain't never figgered why nobody would want to anyhow I reckon .. ;-p That's the problem with gummits that try to Big Brother folks .. make a buncha rules on how far he gotta stand from the urinal and some feller gonna challenge it saying that don't apply if he be left-handed .. ;-p > *chuckling* > Jane :-)) > > http://www.phoenixrose.com/scentsorium > Phoenix Rose Scentsorium - Healing that makes Scents Yep .. gummits is worth chuckling over .. ;-) And the more they try to guvern, the less effective they be and the easier it is to make'em look like sump'in needs chucklin' over .. ;-p > >The Damask Rose is one of the few that can grow from cuttings or its own > >root stock .. Guest guest
Hi Missy, All I think they were just kidding ... but you do bring up a good point .. sometimes introducing non native flora and fauna to environments and eco systems can create HUGE problems! Here is a report about Harmful Non Indigenous Species in the US: http://www.wws.princeton.edu/~ota/disk1/1993/9325_n.html Hoping y'all are having a great weekend folks! *Smile* Chris (list mom) Aromatic Easter Baskets http://www.alittleolfactory.com Missy wrote: > Greetings > > As an Australian, I would prefer if you tried to ship them legally. > The Australian Customs are harsh on all plants, animals, etc because > we have managed to keep many diseases that affect plants and animals > out, and I for one wish to keep it that way. > > Missy >
Guest guest
Butch, Chris and List I realised that it was tongue in cheek, but this is an issue that is very close to my heart since I now live in an area that is trying to combat fire ants from this type of thing. Just wanted a serious input in case someone tries to do it seriously - I know Butch wouldn't because it could have serious effect on his business Missy - Chris Ziegler Saturday, March 23, 2002 11:27 PM Re: OT: Shipping Live Plants? Getting purty close to you are they? ;-p Them buggers can bite - we gott'em all over the Southeast USA. But we ain't got no ant eaters and I believe y'all do .. we need to import a few of those long snout dudes. > Just wanted a serious input in case someone tries to do it seriously - But .. nobody on this list exports but me .. and even if they did, they wouldn't (methinks) try to smuggle. And if they did try to smuggle a package large enough to contain rose roots and cuttings, odds are 100% it would be seized .. so not to worry - OK? I export 5-6 hundred metric tons of products a year to lots of countries and one thing exporters know, if you don't got your ducks and paperwork in order, customs or agriculture or some Big Brother outfit gonna put the Habeus Grabbus on it .. means .. you gonna lose the product unless they give you an opportunity to pay return shipping and take it back. > I know Butch wouldn't because it could have serious effect on his > business Right! And wrong! Butch wouldn't do it because Butch knows smuggling is dumb and dishonest. And Butch and employees practice the motto of both his companies. " Practicing the Discipline of Business Ethics. " Honesty and ethical conduct are concepts folks abide by all the time if they are honest and ethical .. not just when other folks might notice or when they think they might can't get away with doing otherwise. :-) So not to worry .. and watch for the jokes on here cause they can fool you sometimes. :-) > Missy Y'all keep smiling, Butch .. who is thinking about shooting some of the crooked politicians here. It would be illegal but not unethical .. ;-p PS: Chris .. if it weren't for introducing non native flora and fauna in America, Alabama and Georgia wouldn't have a national flower - the Kudzu Vine .. and folks in Florida wouldn't have the opportunity to learn two languages .. ;-) ------------------------------ > Hi Missy, All > > I think they were just kidding ... but you do bring up a good point. > Sometimes introducing non native flora and fauna to environments and > ecosystems can create HUGE problems! > > Here is a report about Harmful Non Indigenous Species in the US: > http://www.wws.princeton.edu/~ota/disk1/1993/9325_n.html > > Hoping y'all are having a great weekend folks! > > *Smile* > Chris (list mom) > > Aromatic Easter Baskets > http://www.alittleolfactory.com > > Missy wrote: > > > Greetings > > > > As an Australian, I would prefer if you tried to ship them legally. > > The Australian Customs are harsh on all plants, animals, etc because > > we have managed to keep many diseases that affect plants and animals > > out, and I for one wish to keep it that way. > > > > Missy
