Hello all:

I have been using vitex and vitex blends in my practice for almost 2 years

now. I started working with it after my sister-in-law had breast cancer

(from HRT near as I can figure). So I developed a hot-flash blend for her

and her sisters. The eldest had been having hot flash symptoms for several

years with nothing helping. The vitex helped eliminate them. The blend is

diluted with shea butter or jojoba oil. It contains several 'female oils'

to include fennel, geranium and clary sage. Side effects have been decrease

in osteoarthritis joint pain and increased libido. I also tell the them to

avoid plastics, especially the 'water bottles' and many of the otc cleaning

supplies as they have a tendency to bind estrogen receptors (maybe

irreversible?). Also pesticides. The government states all these chemicals

are ok...but that is another soap box

I also did a vitex blend for PMS containing all the omega oils (3,6,9)as a

carrier. Rubbing it on the abdomen a week before menses and during allowed

for less cramps and 'broom riding.' There are two patients that have used

this for documented ovarian cysts. One woman has not had any problems for

the past 9 months. The other has not returned

The biggest obstacle to hot flashes is long term use, i.e., 20 to 30 years

and then stopping. My mother had cancer of the uterus due to HRT and was

plagued with severe hot flashes. Straight vitex helped a little and Butch's

vitex seemed more effective. Now my mother took 5 drops a day by mouth but

I would not recommend it. After about a year and regular vitex use she is

ok. Now would the flashes have vanished without the vitex? I also have

another patient that has taken it by mouth and appears to have survived the

transition and no longer requires it. Anyone that uses vitex is warned that

it is experimental, there are no guarantees and use at your own risk. There

are so many questions about vitex and no research. The previous are

anecdotal at best. I have been trying to get support from OB's in the area

for a 'vitex' trial but they are too concerned about losing

money...............

About the green goop.....It is a pain relieving cream I developed to stop

the tender point pains of a patient with fibromyalgia. She was able to come

off most of her pain medication, i.e., stopping vicodan and only using

NSAIDS when needed. She was also able to come off her neurontin. Further

use of the cream showed it worked well for just about all muscular aches and

pains. Several massage therapists in the area use this cream for deep

tissue work. After I sent some to NYC for CERMT, I noticed someone posted a

'blue oil blend' for deep tissue massage work. Has many of the same oils as

mine at $90 an ounce.

Another pain relieving cream was developed for a woman who had her knee

replaced and had unending pain at the surgical site. This works well for

deep joint pain.

Hope this helps clear up some questions. Working with oils is great fun.

Folks come in with a problem, I mix an oil and they leave happy (or come

back and we tweak the blend).

Oh as a warning the FDA hasn't approved any of this and do not take this as

medical advice. When in doubt see your quac...er....medical professional

(who know-nothing about drugs or essential oils)

Hi Chuck:

Thanks for the great post. Do you offer the 'hot flash' blend for others,

too. Have order Vitex agnus castus (Chasteberry Leaf Oil) from Butch to

just sniff but if you have a blend available, I would be very interested in

that also. And, that 'green goop' sounds pretty darn good, too. Thanks.

Blessings and love,

Effie

Yes Chuck, thanks from Scotland too. I wouldn't dream of asking for the

recipe (!) but could you just list the actual eo's that you put in the hot

flashes cream. Are there, for instance, more than Vitex, fennel, geranium

and clary sage?Maybe it would help me. I'm a trained aromatherapist but

sometimes it's a bit like being a plumber and never mending you own dripping

tap (or as you might say , 'faucet'!) See Chris - I'm getting the hang of

it:)

Sometimes, when it is cold up here in th north, hot flashes (or as we call

them here hot flushes) are a bonus, but most of the time they are a pain in

the butt, especially when they wake me in the middle of the night

Any further hints on your green gloop would also be appreciated. l'm not in

for it commercially, just a few clients that use the creams I make. There's

so much legislatioin here re making creams and soaps that sometimes it just

doesn't seem worth it. I make what I call a 'joint gel' (speaks for itself)

with Devils Claw, Meadow Sweet, Lavender and Spanish Marjoram and that goes

down really well.

Thanks in advance

Regards

Ann - Scotland
