I have an over-the-counter herbal remedy that consists of black kohosh,

kava, and vitamin E. It is *wonderful*! It's called Hot Flashex and it's

made by Natrol.

I would suggest seeing an herbalist to get a formula-

most over the counter remedies are too vague- this is a specific and

individual concern(like most things)..concerning yin deficiency and false

heat symptoms.

It would be best to have a formula that was suited to your case

specifically...

most acupuncturists are qualified herbalists-

where do you live?

Hi Dorothy,

As Michelle said, if these herbs are indicated for you, they sound like a

good bunch to choose from. My mum does very well on natural progesterone

cream, black cohosh and a small amount of soy.

Dorothy, Sorry I took so long in replying to your querry. I started having

hot flashes back in the " 70's " at the age of 37. At the time I had a friend

who ran a health food store and was very knowledgable about herbs. She turned

me on to Femtrol, a product made by Enzymatic Therapy laboratories. I took

the reccomended dosage for about 5 years and then tapered off to half the

dosage for about 5 years and still take 2 caps a day when I get to feeling a

little off balance ( mentally ) . Bad choice of words! LOL anyway, thats what

helped me through the Menopause without having to take any Estrogen. It

wasn't easy , but I got through it. HTH's, Deonia

Truer words were never spoken. My journey started early at the age of

37. I'm now almost 50, and I haven't found the end of this road yet.

Don't want to dampen anyone's hope on 'womenopause' hot flashes. Haven't

figured out why they call it 'menopause' when it has nothing to do with

men!?!?!?!? Anyway, I too started at an early (33) age and ended up having

a forced hysterectomy (precancerous). Took estrogen and had three very

painful hospitalized sessions with blood clots. Now I just take vit e and

at my mature age of 70 something, I still experience periods of hot flashes

and anxiety where I think I am going to jump out of my skin. As you say -

for some it never stops. I just cuss, grin and bear.

Blessings and love,

Effie

Yo Butch:

Where can I find some Vitex agnus castus (Chasteberry Leaf Oil)? I can't

take anything like estrogen etc. As far as 'hormones' - do you know what

really makes a 'whore' moan? Don't pay her!! Ha Ha.

I gave my girlfriend a bottle of rose geranium hydrosol for her hot

flashes. She spritzes herself when she feels one coming on and keeps

spritzing throughout the day. She says it is the best thing for her hot

flashes.

Hi Butch

Howsomeever .. Vitex agnus castus (Chasteberry Leaf Oil) CAN! But it

should not be used by folks who are receiveing some form of hormone

supplements .. and there are possible side-effects so the studies that

have been conducted recommend you sneak up on it - sniff it - do not

ingest.

Didn;t know there was an eo of this, only heard of the herb

PS: If folks are interested, I'll send three long posts that are a

compilation of posts on Vitex ..

Yes please

Back in October 2000, a lady wrote on Idma:

> Anyone have a tried and true formula for hot flashes related to

> menopause?

Just getting to my mail and I see someone else is experiencing the great

" M " also!

The best essential oils are

VITEX!!!!! EVENING PRIMROSE OIL !!

VITEX!!!

VITEX!!!

NOTHING ELSE WORKED AS WELL FOR ME!

Now in the herbs I took Motherswort in tincture form in a glass of water

(at first sign of hot flash). Evening Primrose caps 1000ml morning and

evening, and Skullcap caps 3x day (for those darn rages that seem to

creep up on me)!

-------------------------------

I don't know folks .. I don't even pour the oil myself .. ;-p

Y'all keep smiling, Butch http://www.AV-AT.com

You are most welcome and thanks for the comp, Chris. Actually, the only

thing gold about the golden years is urine!!! LOL Not really--I enjoy

every day so very much and really appreciate with as much gratitude as there

is for every moment. Am anxious for spring so I can get outside--plant

flowers, paint my garage, mow my lawn and relax on the patio.

Blessings and love,

Effie
