Guest guest
Hi y'all, Coming out of lurkdom to ask a question. I'm battling an abscessed tooth and a friend who knows aheckuva lot more than me about EOs (of course, that's not saying much ;-) recommended that I apply tea tree topically. It sounds like a great idea, but then of course I saw the DO NOT INGEST! warning on the bottle. My question is, do you wise folks think it would be okay to apply a tiny bit with a Q-tip directly to the affected area? I'm not planning to drink it or anything. Not looking for medical advice, just opinions! TIA, and bright blessings, Cindy ~~ I am the Goddess, I am the Mother All acts of love and pleasure are my ritual ~~

Okay .. first off .. the do not ingest (when it comes to certain oils) is put there as a CYA thing for the supplier ... if I KNOW that I have a pure EO from a trusted source, that is a plant species that yields a non toxic when used internally EO I will use it internally in an appropriate manner That is just what I would do! > > My question is, do you wise folks think it would be > okay to apply a tiny bit with a Q-tip directly to the affected area? Okay .. when my friend had a tooth abscess and was living in the woods and had no way of getting to a dentist in the near future I told him about making a paste of goldenseal root powder, powdered myrrh and clove essential oil .. he packed that paste into the affected tooth's area several times a day till the infection subsided .... > > > TIA, and bright blessings, > Cindy > ~~ I am the Goddess, I am the Mother > All acts of love and pleasure are my ritual ~~ Feel better .. hope ya can get to the dentist soon ...... *Smile* Chris (list mom) http://www.alittleolfactory.com > > >
Guest guest
Hi Cindy, I had problems with my teeth last year, so thought I'd share with you what I did ..... It was weeks before I could get the teeth fixed (meaning, extracted :-( ) and I had an abcess under a wisdom tooth and a molar that was being held in place by a very old crumbling filling, with the nerve exposed. It'd probably been about 3 weeks before I went to the dentist (who was stunned at how long I'd put up with the pain!), and another 2 weeks after that before getting the teeth out. In the meantime, I kept the pain at bay & kept the infection from spreading mainly with Butch's Origanum dubium ct linalool (I *love* this stuff!!!). The carvacrol worked on the abcess & the linalool stopped the carvacrol from burning, and worked on the pain. I put a drop on my finger & rubbed it around each tooth. I put another drop on my finger & lightly stroked the lymph nodes under my ears to encourage the removal of the junk from the abcess - I used bay laurel in the same way when the nodes were swollen. The dentist packed the molar hole with cloves to ensure I didn't get a dry socket & that, combined with continued use of the linalool oregano, myrrh & rose helped it heal very quickly. ********BTW********* - this is what *I* did .... if you decide to try this yourself please note *very carefully* the variety of oregano I used to do this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do *NOT* try this with any other than the linalool chemotype of Origanum dubium - you *will* burn your mouth severely !!!!!!!!!!! Don't say you weren't warned !!!!! A couple of other things I did during those rather painful weeks - one day the pain got too much and I (very instinctively) put a few drops of neroli hydrosol into a glass of water & sipped it. The pain disappeared immediately ! I was stunned !! The difference from one second to the next was quite remarkable. It worked like Rescue Remedy. After about half an hour the pain started to slowly reappear, but it never got back to that intensity. I also put a drop of diluted Rose Otto (3%) on the gums all around that side of my mouth & that helped a lot too. As far as the tea tree goes - it's unlikely to cause any problems using it as you say - not impossible, but unlikely. Particularly if your tea tree is one high in terpinen-4-ol & low in cineol, rather than the other way around (like most of the tea tree on the market). I would say that there would be a number of EOs that could be used that would help both the pain & fighting infections. Hope this helps ! Jane :-)) Pepper wrote: > Hi y'all, > > Coming out of lurkdom to ask a question. I'm battling an abscessed tooth <snip> Been there done that, you have to wait a loooooong time to see anyone that'll extract a tooth here ...........what worked for me was just plain old clove buds (whole herb) packed em right in my mouth and it made the pain bearable......... The topical tea tree and the hepar sulph I took really did the trick. You all are so great about sharing your knowledge - you really are appreciated.
