Guest guest
Hi Chris, Hey if you have any pointers on the bedroom switch with your son, please share with me. My daughter is 21 months and still nurses and is in the " family bed " . I would like to get some sleep too. I know it will be a while. I plan on buying a toddler bed this week or next. She climbs right out of the crib, it never worked. You can e-mail me privately with any pointers if you like. I sure would appreciate it. I don't know anyone else to ask about this stuff. My friends and family have thought I was nuts allowing her to sleep with me from birth and never making her sleep in her own crib. Any suggestions are great! Margaret - getting NO sleep this week as I try to teach my son to >sleep in his own bed in his own room! Guest guest
Hugs Chris! It took a month before we got AJ sleeping in his own bed. He started climbing out of his crib and we got him a bed. (Since we also needed the crib for Jordan!) I ended up sleeping on the floor by his bed for about 2 weeks to keep him in his bed. Not fun, since at the time I was 5 months preggo! But now, he gets in his bed, pulls up the covers and is asleep. Ahh. Sometimes I do find him on the floor though A gate across his door also helps, or we'd never keep him in his bed! Guest guest
My son didn't start sleeping in his own non-crib bed until he stopped nursing, even though he wasn't nursing at night. He was about 18-20 months, somewhere in there when we made the switch. We spent time reading in his bed instead of ours before bed time, and we allowed him the freedom to come to bed with us, occasionally. The deal was he could come to bed, cuddle, tell us his problems, and then we put him back in bed. This mean no sleeping in our bed at night. This was VERY tiring, constantly having to put him back in bed. But it took about two and a half weeks. Now he sleeps in his bed no problem. He will get up at night, get a drink of water and go back to bed. Usually he stops in our room and kisses us in our sleep. If he has bad dreams, he comes in and cuddles with us, but then gets up and goes back to bed before falling asleep. The main thing is consistency, you just have to do it a billion times.
