Guest guest
OK, have another question......... I know that hydrosols are a byproduct (hope that's the right term) when producing essential oils. Where do floral waters come from?? When would I use a floral water instead of a hydrosol? Has anyone used hydrosols or floral waters in lotions, etc? What is the benefit? Sorry that was more than one question............Must have too much time on my hands cause my brain is working overtime. Can't wait till the spring thaw so I can start putting in flower and veggie gardens. Guest guest
Over here the words are often used to mean the same thing although I would expect hydrosol or hydrolat to be the 'proper thing' and floral water to be a synthetic product. The general public tend to use the words floral water and the professionals or interested lay people use hydrolat or hydrosol Don't know if that helps Hydrolats are great used in lotions, use with or to replace any other water based product Regards Ann - Scotland OK, have another question......... The terminology is so sketchy it is ridiculous .. but many companies selling " floral waters " are selling blended/filtered oil and water mixes, which are not the same as a " genuine hydrosol " direct from the stills. > Has anyone used hydrosols or floral waters in lotions, etc? Yes, I have used hydrosols in my lotions and other toiletries ... > What is the benefit? Depends on the hydrosol, but REAL hydrosols (not those oil and water mixtures mentioned above) contain both the oil and water soluable matter of the distilled plants, as opposed to the essential oil containing only the oil soluable matter, so you get many of the benefits of the EO and then some even ... > > Sorry that was more than one question............Must have too much > time on my hands cause my brain is working overtime. Guest guest
Another good point about true hydrosols is that they contain carboxylic acids which are anti inflammatory--- > Hiya Carol > > doggone wrote: > > > OK, have another question......... > > I know that hydrosols are a byproduct (hope that's the right term) > > when producing essential oils. > > They can be called a byproduct .. or as I prefer - " the other product > produced " when making steam and hydrosteam distilled essential oils .... > > > Where do floral waters come from??
