<<What is Ayurveda?>>

Again, sorry for the delay in responding. Just read this today. (But

hey, I have my messages down to under 150 as of today!)

Ayurveda is the world's original natural health system. In practice for

over 8,000 years. No drug recalls in milleniums!

It is becoming known today in US mostly for the information on diet and

herbs, and rejuvenation. But it is also about the mind, and way back when

they were doing surgery before the " West " (West of what, I always wonder?)

ever thought of it.

Basically, it is the understanding of the causes and effects of Nature,

and using this knowledge to keep ourselves in balance. As we pass through

the seasons, through different environments both physical and emotional....

Each of us is a combination of five different elements. Earth, water,

fire, air and " ether " or space. But in different amounts. So those with a

lot of earth and water are heavy and tend toward lethargy and phlegm. While

those with lots of fire get hot-headed and fevers. Etc. Foods each have

different amts. of the elements, too. Hot peppers and garlic have a very

different effect from that of watermelon! Different kinds of music have

different effect in same way. Different kinds of exercise. Of movies.....

everything, in short. Even different times of day.

So once we understand this we can bring ourselves to balance.

A good book for starters is Deepak Chopra's PERFECT HEALTH. Or Vasant

Lad's book on Ayurveda.

This is, as I am wont to say, just the tip of the iceberg.

Shivani
