Guest guest
Teresea, MSM is a therapeutic agent used in the treatment of inflammatory conditions, and relief of arthritis pain. It is a relative to dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and has many of the DMSO properties without the side effects. DMSO penetrates the skin so caution needs to be used so that unwanted products do not come in contact with it (ie: poisons). I find the penetrating value a plus. I have serious neck and back problems and make a liniment for myself out of DMSO, Arnica (liquid form), Ginger (for heat) and Lavender infused Olive and Almond Oil. DMSO can cause nausea, skin rashes and a garlic-onion smell on the body and breath. I haven't had any problems with it. I can't vouch on the effectiveness of MSM since I have never used it. DMSO is getting harder to find (the government is helping us again), so I may have to try MSM in the future. Not sure if this answered your question. If MSM is half as good as DMSO has been for me, I would recommend it. I gave up using all the advertised " trust us " pain relievers, (icyhot, etc), none of them seemed to work. Guest guest
I use MSM and Glucosamine Chondroitin for my arthritis (I have 'junior' arthritis as it has been nicknamed), and for general joint health. Being a dancer I put my knees and ankles to the test. From my experience and from my testing, it works great for about 60% of the people, and for others it does nothing. I have no evidence to back this up, but I would think that is DMSO worked, the MSM would work too. They are similar in chemical makeup, and as you said, are relatives. MSM does not have the penetrating properties the DMSO does, and so needs to be either taken internally, or placed in a good penetrating lotion or oil base. Still, only about half or less of it will make it in this way, but having it right on site does help. Guest guest
Thanks Marilyn, I bookmarked the sites. It was next to impossible to find it in California when I lived there, even the health food stores quit carring it. I live in the boonies in Idaho now and have to do most of my purchases for health products via the internet. Guest guest
I get MSM combined with glucosamine condroitin in tablet form and MSM therapeutic lotion from www.naturalliance.freelife.com, via mail from Connecticut. I wouldn't be without them; I have arthritis in my shoulders. Madeline ---- Tuesday, January 22, 2002 08:07:41 PM Re: MSM (was Blue Stuff) Thanks Marilyn, I bookmarked the sites.
