My friend in China was actually able to reverse her deterioriating situation (she is in her 60s), by doing these exercises 5 times a day. Sometimes I do them and sometimes I do not. I guess I should pay more attention to this. Regards, Rich
Guest guest
There was an article in the New England Journal of TCM summer issue on " the clinical observations on the treatment of young people's myopia using acupuncture and massage " . The study was done on 668 patients ages between 6 and 24. I¹ll summarise it there: The acupuncture treatment consisted of bilateral BL2, St1, Tai Yang, GB20, and yi ming (qi obtained and needles retained for 30min; using neutral supplementation and drainage, no lifting & trusting nor twisting & turning) Massage: 1. patient in supine position, pad of both index fingers on Bl2 2. both thumbs press the upper orbit of the eyes from the inner to outer canthus 3. sequentially press and knead tai yang, St1, GB20, ear point eye, Pc6, LI4, St36, GB37 and Sp6 4. with the patient in seated position pinch/grasp and press the neck and shoulders for 10 min Treatment was done once a day, 12 session=one course of treatment. generally1-3 courses are used (however that could vary according to the severity of the myopia) Results: 3336 were completely cured (50.3%), 289 got positive results (43.3%) and 43 got no results (6.4%) The effectiveness of treatment according to the different degrees of myopia were as followed: * For light myopia (359), 286 cured, 73 positive changes, 0 no change (100% success) * for moderate myopia (206), 50 cured, 148 positive changes, 8 no results (96.1% success) * for severe myopia (103), 0 cured, 68 positive changes, 35 no results (66% success) effectiveness according to age group: * age 6-9 (156), 89 cured, 61 positive changes, 6 no results (96.2% success) * age 10-14 (337), 193 cured, 126 positive changes, 18 no results (94.7%) * age 15-19 (142), 54 cured, 84 positive changes, 4 no results (97.2% success) * age 20-14 (33), 0 cured, 18 positive changes, 15 no results (54.5% success) After one year follow-up of 588 was successful. There were 186 children whose sight remained normal (48.6%), 278 who maintained their post-treatment eye sight (47.3%) and 18 whose eye sight had diminished yet was still better than before treatment (3.1%) and 6 whose eyesight returned to what it was before treatment or got worse (1%) I have seen the same type of protocols being done when I was in China; and by all account the patients seam to trust and be happy with it. In China, I only saw it performed on young children. Also one of my patient got treated with acupuncture when he was very young for myopia and he told me it worked really well; corrected his eye sight and he never had problems afterwards. Hope that helps May On 10/10/04 12:47 pm, " xmhhhh " <xmhhhh wrote: > > > > many acupuncture textbooks mention that myopia can be treated by > acupuncture. but my senior colleague told me that the effect of > acupuncture treatment on myopia is not satisfying.maybe you can share > your view or experience in the treatment of myopia.thank you
