Hi Marcos welcome to the forums

I agree science will always evolve and what must always accept that. But can you

imagine if the the two medicines were combined. The first thing it would do is

the change the whole perspective of WM, this has to happen. Yes your right both

medicines are completely different but that is the best thing about it. If you

combine the two would take all the strengths why removing most of the

weaknesses. No medicine has all the answers to every health problem. If the two

were combined we could practice more preventative medicine and use more of the

WM aspects as for severe cases. TCM treats the health why WM attacks the

sickness it makes sense to combine the two. Yes I do believe this book has

solved the problem and yes I know what an outrages stament that may be. Firstly

he has corrected the problem with terminology so their are no conflicts with WM

theory. This includes detailed explanation for his choice of words, every

conclusion is explained fully as to address all concerns. Secondly

he has shown the evolution of both TCM & WM to show why they have developed so

differently, this makes the different perspectives very clear as he has

addressed it from a very logical perspective. He has found a way to remove the

mystical terms and aspects of the theory without losing any of the necessary

meaning. This includes the five phases or five elemental theory has also been

replaced. For the two to combine he a new unified theory that covers both TCM

and WM theory, these new laws allow the two medicines to work together in

harmony. The laws that govern WM date right back to aristotal logic hundreds of

years ago, I think it is certainly time for an update in our thinking. Both the

medicines have their advantages but just imagine what they can do working

together of even better were joined as one medicine. I highly reccomend the book

to you, let me know what you think.

Hello all, i've just recently arrived here in the TCM list, and I

am impressed by the quantity of posts and the quality of the

members. I am a TCM-acupuncture student here in Brazil, glad for

the opportunity to be around in these discussions.

Hi there Manu,

your comment about TCM and modern science got me thinking; Why

must TCM not conflict with modern science? Modern science is

still building up its knowledge of the world and of man, every

year we see new theories in this or that field, new concepts, new

explanations, new holes to be filled, explained or ignored as

m.science struggles to explain the world in its

own(science's)way. I mean that science has not the claim to the

last word yet, it still has some way to go before it can claim to

have ALL the answers, so why should TCM not make the same claim,

that MS not conflict WITH IT(after all, it gets results that

western medicine sometimes cannot)?

I'm curious to see how this book manages to marry TCM and MS,

they are poles apart, but maybe the problem really is just the

different focus: while one looks at microbes, the other looks to

the conditions that will foster or inhibit them(xu of wei-qi or

strong zheng-qi), and an equating of terminology will help take

care of that.

Regards,

Marcos

Yes but here in the West this is a pipe dream, they have no interest in

giving CM equal weight and I see no indication that they ever will. They

could less about or view on disease and Therefore I feel this whole line of

thought is moot. Have you seen any indication otherwise?

Hi

I understand your hesitation as their are huge obstacles to overcome and in

answer to your question yes their is plenty of positive signs. The effort to

combine the medicines has been a mojor worldwide task for decades with many

internationally reknowned Universities e.g. Harvard stronmgly involved in the

research. Their are dozens of international conferences held every year attended

by both eastern and western doctors. In China to combine the two has been set up

as a national task. In england TCM due to the fact the Queen is a huge fan is

now becoming funded like WM. In many countries over 50% of GP's use acupuncture,

there training is somewhat limited but thats because TCM theory is conflicting

and confusing to them. The modern health system is becoming so overwhelmed that

it cannot continue to sustain its current demise (overloaded, under resourced

and underfunded with bad results). This is forcing change whether they like it

or not, for example GP's in Australia now have been

trained to refer on to a alternative therapist if they cant help, the

government has finally realised how much money this is saving them. It is the

government that makes the decisions and despitethe fierce opposition from drug

companies the goverment puts saving money first. It is beleived that by doing

this they could half the cost of health that is why so many governments have

invested so much time and money into this ultimatum. So yes in answer to your

question and can happen the real question is will TCM step to the plate.
