They base much of their material on the work of Maurice Mussat, a French physician who is into using Yi Jing and five phase in his acupuncture theory outline. Joe Helms is also at least a student of other directions in our field. He and two other teachers (MDs) in his program were at the seminar with Paul Unschuld back in 2003, and I have run into him at Jeffery Yuen weekend workshops. Iconically, he once expressed something of a frustration, from an MD's perspective, at a perceived arrogance on the part of some TCMers, in claims of superiority of their viewpoints. The way he put was similar to the way many here have expressed frustrations with attitudes from the WM community. My impression was that he (and one of his co-workers) feel strongly that aspects of CM theory, as well as zhen-jiu techniques, provide an essential complement to WM.
