Health plans embrace alternatives

SARAH RUBENSTEIN

(09-22) 07:31 PDT (AP) --

Amid the steady flow of news about rising health-care costs, there is a pocket

of consolation for workers who find alternative medicine helpful: More employees

are getting coverage for acupuncture and chiropractic care.

About 47 percent of employees with health benefits had acupuncture coverage in

2004, up from 33 percent in 2002, according to a 3,000-employer survey released

earlier this month by the Kaiser Family Foundation and Health Research and

Educational Trust. Chiropractic coverage increased to 87 percent from 79 percent

of workers with health benefits, the survey showed.
