Guest guest
Dear Mystir, I believe this purple tongue is a sign of cold stagnation, there is not enough yang to move qi, fluids and blood. Excess yin. I believe that invigorating the blood should not be a primary concern in any formula for this condition but of a secondary nature, if used at all and that would be dependent on the colour of the acne. Often blood stagnation due to yang xu is not adviseable to move blood but only to warm it. This is usually adequate to move it. If the tongue is only blueish purple then that would be the only treatment principle needed. If the tongue is very purple maybe with dark enlarged areas then blood movers would be called for. Often there will be some greasiness at the base because if the yang of the body is weak then dampness will accumualte in the lower jiao due to weak spleen and kidney yang. Spleen not transforming properly, kidney not separating or moving qi to middle jiao and often there will be some stagnation (or loose dampness) in the bowel because of its location in the lower heater. Phlegm stagnation would show up with thick sticky coat on the tongue. Pulse is weak and thin > > Bld stag w phlegm? if other things don't work, why not try invigorate blood/ move blood stasis, dredge channels? I wonder if purple tongue is overlooked by everybody often. You will see in a week if it is useful or not, and if he has headaches, if they reduce.
