It has always served to " make things better " for me. I would imagine that this is so because even though I do show some signs of vacuity (mostly SP), I also show signs of various yu zheng (depression patterns) - qi, damp-phlegm. I have never once felt fatigued because of sex. Brian C. Allen

Guest guest
Dear all, I have, through many years, been doing exactly what Dean asks. The results have been like this; if the two people love each other I have found no depletion of Qi at all. If the woman does not love the man, she has been depleted of Heart-Qi. If the man does it just for the sex, his Liver-Qi is often depleted together with some Heart-Qi. If the man does it without love, and too fast, his Spleen-Qi is depleted. May be in China, where marriages often were without love, may be the pattern was different than today? Are Are Simeon Thoresen arethore http://home.online.no/~arethore/ - Dean Militello Thursday, January 29, 2004 7:21 PM jing Jason, Brian, Z'ev, and all, The effects of sex are likely one of histories more contraversial topics. Add to that that this discussion has focused on jing depletion, which seems to be difficult to assess in the short term, and this discussion could go on for ever without resolve. So, it occured to me that it could be useful clinically to focus this discussion on a few points, such as, if your patient comes in and says that he met a new lover and has been having sex and ejaculating 6x per day for the last week, could you diagnosis jing depletion? how? or would he be likely to exhibit an effect consistent with his constitution? i.e. if he were spleen qi xu he might be more fatiqued? if liver depression perhaps he feels invigorated, etc. point being that we should be able to guide individual patients to how much is enough, no? I recently had a patient that complained that he has recently experienced insomnia on nights when he has ejaculated more than once. He sleeps fine if the sex happens earlier in t! he day. looks to me like heart and kidneys bu jiao, i prescribed a formula accordingly and told him that it would best if he avoided ejaculating to the point of insomnia, something that he assured me he had already discovered. Anyone else have any sex as it pertains to cm patterns stories? Dean
Guest guest
Hi all, I really like what Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming writes on the subject of Jing. In fact, I really like everything he writes (though at times I may personally disagree). He is very well studied. On Jing he writes: " Jing means " the essence: or the " essentials " . When Jing is used as " essence " , it exists in everything. Jing may be considered the primal substance or original source from which a thing is made, and which exhibits the true nature of that thing. When Jin is used in reference to animals or humans, it means the very original and essential source of life and growth. This Jing is the origin of the Shen (spirit) [Note: this is one point that I might disagree with Dr. Yang] which makes an animal different from a tree. In humans, Jing is passed down from the parents. Sperm is called " Jing Zi " which means " the sons of essence. " When this essence is mixed with the mother's Jing (egg), a new life is generated which is, in certain fundamental respects, an intertwining of the Jings of both parents; The child is formed, the Qi ciruculates, and the Shen grows. The JIng whcih has been carreid over from the parents is called " Yuan Jing " , which means " Original Essence " . " Once you are born, Original Jing is the fountainhear ad root of your life. It is what enables you to grow stronger and bigger. " " In Qigong training, knowing how to conserve and firm your Original Jing is of primary importance. For example, if you overindulge in sexual activity, you will lose your Original Jing faster than other people and your body will degenerate faster. " " Remember, that Original JIng is like the principal in your savings account in that iti is an original investment which wil continue to return interest as long as it is conserved. Jing can produce Qi, so if you handle your Jing carefully [Note, I do not personally care for the word " carefully " in this context], you willl continue to have Jing and Qi. However, if you abuse yourself with an unhealthy lifestyle, you may damage and reduce your original Jing. [Note: Dr. Yang uses the word " may " here]. " Please understand that the Chinese doctors and Qigong practitioners are not saying that in order to conserve your Jing, you must stop your sexual activity completely. As a matter of fact, they encourage the proper amount of sexual activity believing that it will energize and activate the Jing, which makes the Jing-Qi conversion more efficient. In addition, the proper amount of secual activity wil energize the Qi so that it nourishes the Shen (spirit). This will help you stay mentally balanced, and raise your Shen. It is very important to keep your Shen raised, otherwise it will tend to get depressed and will be afraid to face life. " " According to Qigong, the JIng which resides in the external kidneys is the main source of the Qi which fills up the four major Qi vessels in the legs. These four Qi reservoirs (vessels) keep the legs strong and healthy. Therefore, if you feel that your legs are weak due to the amount of sexual acitivity, you have lost too much of your Jing. " Basically everyone has enough Jing to live a life, but the quality and quantity vary. That is what makes us human. Men and women use their Jing differently. Men use more during ejaculation. Women during menstruation and child-birth. We are all different, which is why I believe we (ourselves) are the final authority on " what is good for me " . The more we know ourselves (Awareness), the better we can direct (Intent) or lives and avoid very unpleasent events. Like a captain sailing on the ocean. :-) Hope others found Dr. Yang's discussion as interesting as I did. Regards, Rich
