TCM approach to using Coffee as a Stimulent - was Coffee and Jing

Hi everyone,

Regarding coffe and its everyday use as well as its use as a medicinal

herb, the questions I would like to pose concerning coffee are these:

1) Is it healthy to use coffee on a regular basis? Is it much

different from too much sex? That is, is it good health, from a TCM

perspective, to use energy in the body in the way that coffee utilizes

stored Kidney energy? My understanding is that coffee stimulates by

" stealing " qi/jing directly from the Kidney. It does not create energy

(qi) through the normal processes of transformation or through direct

" breathing of " correct qi " , as qigong allows people to do. It would be

interesting to discuss the long term effects of " stealing qi " from the

body, which is essentially what any addictive drug does whether it be

cigarettes, sugar, or opium. That is quick and artificial

" stimulation " to the body. The diuretic effects of coffee are a key

indicator of how coffee acts on the body.

2) Are there better health techniques that a TCM practitioner can

deploy in order to invigorate - stimulate - the patient's body? That

is, to provide more qi to the client/patient as opposed to using the

resources that are available at the moment within the client/patient.

At times, it may be necessary to draw on the Kidney storehouse, but is

thise the wisest long term, or even short-term path - especially if

the client/patient is already in a weakened path? If there are

alternatives, then why aren't these techniques being employed?

Thank you for your comments.

Regards,

Rich
