Studying TCM in Vancouver?

Hello everyone.

My name's Simon, I've just joined the group. I live in Canberra, the capital

city of australia, where I am

about to finish a two year diploma of " eastern massage therapy " - a Chinese

Medicine course where

we learn Tuina and Shiatsu, plus a bit of cupping, moxibustion, TCM diet therapy

and lots of anatomy

and physiology and pathology etc etc....I practice chinese martial arts and

qigong with a teacher who is

also my doctor, at the moment most of what we are doing in class comes from

xingyiquan.

I've joined this group with a specific purpose, as the title of this post

suggests: I am interested in

continuing my studies in Vancouver, at one of the schools there, and I'm trying

to find out what they

are like: if any one is better than all the others, are they all good, which

one's have a nice campus as

well as good teachers and course structure, etc...SO is there anyone here on

this group who has studied

at a TCM college in Vancouver, or who knows someone who has, or has heard

anything about the

relative merits of any of them? I plan to study acupuncture and herbal/internal

medicine.

Thanks! any information at all would be most welcome. If you'd prefer to email

me my address is

Hi Simon,

The one that Henry Lu runs is likely to be fairly good.

http://www.tcmcollege.com/

Being Vancouver, we received a huge influx of teachers and

practitioners from China in the 80's and 90's. Not all of whom were

that good. The College of Traditional Practitioners

and Acupuncturists of British Columbia has been working to clean this

up, but it will be a slow process. They also don't yet provide the

statistics on success rates for passing the board exams by school, but

it is worthwhile to ask for it, as I believe that if more people do,

we will start to get this sort of information out of them. That is not

to say that it is the only way of judging the quality of a school, but

it will give you a sense of things.

Hi,

I suggest that you be specific as to which Vancouver. Canada, America or

Australia? You have a reply already that refers to Vancouver,

Canada-Henry Lu's school, and yes he has a great rep.
