Guest guest
The ABT programs I studied at focused diagnosis on 5 Element/Pathways. All my education in the rest of TCM (what the national tests will judge of my skills) has been acquired in supplimental education. I can be perfectly happy leaving it at the level of esoteric theory but I'd like to integrate it into my concept of realities. (To make them all languages I can think in;-) Finding the level A & P I had in school also not satisfying to the level of understanding I think I need I've also gone on to study more Western A & P in mundane college. My queston, and I know there doesn't need to be any relationship between the various systems and I'm probably revealing myself as a true idiot here but I can't help but wonder about mitochondria. We only inherit it from own mothers (as the father's is in the tail of the sperm and gets left outside of the ovum). Western science explains it as an organelle responsible for ATP generation for cellular activities. Is there anything comparable to mitichondria in Eastern thought? Yes, as you say but just the same, mitochondria are only passed down by the mother. Once the sperm head is in the ovum the father's mitochondria (which is in the tail) is locked out. Only the mother's mitochondria has a life (in the child) beyond the act of sex. Men's mitochondria is lost once the act of sex is completed. None of the father's mitochondrial DNA (which is different than his shared cellular DNA) is passed on the the child. Perhaps if I rephrase my question; Since the production of ATP is a major part of celluar energy in Western science and the ability to produce ATP comes only from the mitochondria inherited from the mother, I was wondering if there was anything comparable in Asian thought. This question always presents itself to me whenever people start talking about jing. Penel

Penel The reason I said your comment was only pat true is because it seemed to me that you were indicating that we are limited by what Mom gave us for the original mitochondria. I was trying to point out that even though we are given tendency of mitochondria production by Mom, if we upscale our lifestyle, we will produce more mitochondria that would work more efficiently and be quite a bit healthier. Maybe I jumped to a conclusion that was not meant. Chris
