Guest guest
Please write letters to State Senator Kemp Hannon (R, Long Island, N.Y.) asking him to support a Medicaid rate increase for HIV/AIDS Day Treatment Programs. On Long Island we have only one Day Treatment Program for folks living with HIV/AIDS. It's located in Freeport (Nassau County), Long Island. The program serves HIV+ folks from Nassau, Suffolk and Western Queens. In early September a group of consumers, community activists and staff from the Freeport Day Program plan to visit Senator Hannon to lobby his support. We would like to deliver letters of support when we visit him. Can you take the time to write one? Just a few lines will do. Senator Kemp Hannon 1600 Stewart Avenue Westbury, N.Y. 11590 You can e-mail your letters to me at RMKuriloff Thank You, Maria Kuriloff Facts:According to the Long Island Association for AIDS Care, over 3,893 cases have been diagnosed since 2000. This number is rising. We now have very high numbers of HIV+ cases reported for women, young women (16 to 20) and people over the age of 50. HIV/AIDS programs statewide have lost government funding over the last several years. HIV+ Day Programs receive $6.18 less per patient than similar programs for the elderly in nursing homes
