Guest guest
The NUS-Johns Hopkins Consortium for Botanical Drug Development will be organizing the International Congress on Complementary and Alternative Medicine (ICCAM) 2005 from 26-28 February 2005 at the Raffles City Convention Centre, Singapore. The meeting has the sponsorship of the Ministry of Health, National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and Johns Hopkins University, Department of Medicine, Baltimore, USA. Singapore TCM practitioners and herbal trade associations are also participating. There is great commercial interest and a vibrant trade exhibition is expected. This looks set to be the premiere event in complementary and alternative medicine to be held in Singapore and internationally. We hope to reach out to over 500 local and international scientists, clinical researchers, western-trained clinicians, pharmacists, health professionals, nurses, alternative medicine practitioners, traditional medicine practitioners, business and industry, industry regulators, and interested lay public. In view of the great interest in herbal medicines in this region, we have specially chosen the theme for this coming Congress to be: " Herbal Medicines: Ancient Cures, Modern Science " The theme highlights the problem; we all face as to how to reconcile traditional herbal medicines with modern pharmaceutical science. The Congress aims to be the forum for the latest breakthroughs in botanical medicines, and to facilitate scientific exchange between practitioners and scientific researchers. Plenary lectures and symposia will cover all topics critical to development of herbal medicines including botanical taxonomy, DNA and chemical profiling, chemistry of natural products, molecular mechanisms of action, manufacturing, quality control & regulatory issues, clinical trials and human disease prevention, commercialization, and venture capital. There will also be topics on other CAM areas such as Aryuvedic, acupuncture, and tropical herbal traditions etc. We had a tremendous response so far and almost all the plenary speakers we have written to have agreed to speak. Please have a look at our website: (www.ICCAM2005.org.sg <http://www.iccam2005.org.sg/> ) and let me know you require any clarification or additional information.
