Hi Attilio,

Well... You may well be right that the Healing crisis does not exist

in TCM. However, In my experience There is such a thing as a

'healing crisis' although it may well be misunderstood certainly IMO

it is misunderstood by a fair proportion in the JR 5 Element community.

When I was 27 and deep into Western spiritualism. I attended a 2 day

workshop on Spiritual Healing.

I had the good fortune of meeting a Healer of 30 yrs standing (never

been to China or understood the term 'Qi Gong') I say this because

some things are universal.

She took a shine to me (I supposed she saw more than was apparent at

the time of my future potential ,she must have been able to see a

long, long way in to the future) She placed her hands at a distance

of a bout a foot from a number of my 'chrakas' and an intense heat

filled me where ever her hands were pointed. By that evening I had the

most intense yellow / green gunge come out of my nose for 2 days,

then I was fine. She changed much in my character as well as my

physical in that half hour session. (although I fear she only

scrapped the surface of the barrrel).

I have also very occasionally experienced this same phenomenome with

some of my patients.

IMO there is such a thing as a 'healing crisis' and it usually

involves the strenghtening of the immune system. I would think that

this is a phenomenome that would have been noted many a time over the

centuries in CM.

3 months back I had a patient who had been treated wrongly for 5 yrs

with 5 Element Acup. by having her P and SJ tonified. As part of my

1st TX I Sedated Ren-15. As soon as the needle was inserted

anticlockwise She begun to panic and hYperventilate, I guided her for

10 minutes into breathing lower and lower into her lower abdomen. By

the time I finished her diaphgram was relaxed and she was breathing

deeply.

This was a healing crisis. Through continuos wrong TX her diapghram

and middle Dantian was in trouble REN-15 released her (quite apart

from what else I did :) ) . This patient knows she came through a

healing crisis and she'll never forget the experience.

Anyone who has ever had gus sha or cupping has most certainly

experienced a " healing crisis " , only in TCM they call it " bruising "

that may last for 15 days. :-)

Healing crisis is a universal concept. It is discussed in Shiatsu

books, homeophathy literature, herbal books, etc. Different traditions

may refer to it differently though. My tuina/qigong doctor just

explains that as he removes obstructions and releases blood and

energy, the " pain " will move down toward the extremities since the

nerves are being re-awakened. " Healing crisis " may be too strong a

phrase for many situations, but even when treating simple wind-cold

syndroms, there will often be a " release " such as diarrhea or even

vomiting. All of this is nature's way of getting rid of the " gook " (as

I like to call it) from the body. It is exactly the same as cleaning

out a clogged pipe. The gook has to go somewhere .. and it is usually

" out " through the normal sewage channels. :-)

Regards,

Rich
