Hi Jason

I'm stepping in for Dermot here since I have Johnson's book too and

I can type pretty darn fast (hence my longwinded posts:-)).

The Appendices of this book are quite lengthy but I have chosen two

entries which should stimulate some discussion and also explain

what " Emitted Qi " has been proven/is suspected to be.

From " Chinese Medical Qi Gong Therapy: A Comprehensive Text " Jerry

Johnson:

Pg 922

Infrasonic Qigong Research

The discovery that specific bands of very low frequency sound

influence healing and vitality was an accident. A " friend of the

family " walked in to the National Electroacoustics Laboratory in

Abeijing and asked Prof> Lu Yan Fang, an acoustics scientist, if she

would test his hand to see if any sound was coming out of it when he

emitted Qi. She thought he was crazy but went along because she

didn't want to dishonor her family be burning out a friend.

Prof. Lu's discovery that he did indeed emit a very strong signal in

the infrasonic range was quite a surprise. This signal was 100 times

stronger than that of a healthy, normal person. Elderly and sick

people had even lower readings.

To verify that this infrasonic sound had a physiological effect, she

built a device to simulate this output and tested it in hospitals.

It worked to relieve pain and assist recovery in a wide variety of

patients.

Prof. Lu's patent for the Infratonic QGM was the first ever filed in

China and her device was awarded three awards for outstanding

contribution to science and medicine from Chinese national science

organizations. It is clear from the Chinese intrasonic research

presented in this chapter that infrasonic sound is an important

component of emitted Qi.

Shanna: Johnson goes on to cite a study by Prof. Liu Guo-Long, MD,

PhD Beijing College of Traditional with Richard Lee

called " Infrasonic Simulation of Emitted Qi from Qigong Masters " .

I'll just summarize the histogram of Effects of Emitted Qi on the

Brain Measured by EEG Power Spectrum Analysis from the study which

shows: percent of test subjects responding to the variables a)

Enhanced and Synchronized Alpha Rhythm (ESAR) b) Enhanced EEG Power

Spectrum on All Channels (EEPSAC) and c) Reversal to Frontal Cortex

Domination (RFCD). Side note: my PhD Ecologist boyfriend pointed out

that the statistics of control and variability were left out of this

summary. One can refer to Lui's paper I guess to see if any

particular readings describing enhancement are included therein,

however, the histogram does show that the three treatments were

higher than the control, just not to what degree or how many people

in the cohort. The histogram shows: control group showed 40% of test

subject had ESAR, 20% EEPSAC, 15% RFCD; Qi Gong Meditation group had

99% ESAR, 62% EEPSAC, 45% RFCD; Emitted Qi from Master group had 89%

ESAR, 62% EEPSAC, 52% RFCD; Infrsonic Stiumlation group showed 89%

ESAR, 50% EEPSAC, 40% RFCD. No diseased subjects were compared to

the other groups which I would have found really interesting. Other

places in the Appendices having to do with Kirilian photography show

that elderly and ill people have less " qi " and would, therefore IMO,

need external Qi treatments more than healthy people who could learn

the meditations and get good (but not superior) results as shown by

the histogram.

Here's a trial done on an organic, measurable disease which Jason

wanted to see.

The Effect of the Emitted Qi on Carcinoma Cells

Feng Lida, Qian Ju qing, Chen SuQing, et.al.; china Immuniology

Research Center, Beijing, China.

(This influential paper is the first presented in the 1998 FWCAEMQG

Proceedings, and shows that emitted Qi can kill cancer cells and

alter chromosomes in virto, providing clinical evidence that cancer

patients would do well to learn Qigong(shanna: or avail themselves

of emitted Qi)).

We used the techniques of tissue culture, cytogenics and electron

microscopy to study the Hale cells and SCG-7901 human gastric

adenocarcinoma cells, the change of the cellular untrastructure and

abnormal structure of the chromosomes of the cells. The results

showed:

1) The effect of the emitted Qigong on the Hale Cells:

We repeated the experiment 20 times under identical conditions.

After the Hale cells received the emitted Qi for 20 minutes, the

survival rate of the cells in the experimental group was 69.28% of

that in the control group, i.e. 30.72% of the cells in the

experimental groups were killed. At the same time we observed the

Hale cells with a translation electron microscope, and found that

degeneration and swelling took place in some of the cells which

received the emitted Qi. The endoplasmic reticula were dilated

obviously, and the nuclei of the cells were destroyed.

The Effect of Emitted Qi on the Gastric Adenocarcinoma Cells:

After the gastric adenocarcinoma cells received the emitted Qi for

one hour, the survival rate fo the cells was 74.98% of that in the

control group i.e. the average destruction rate of the cells was

25.02%. We repeated the experiment 41 times under identical

conditions, and through statistical analysis found a difference

between the two groups (P<0.01). In the meantime, a scanning

electron microscope was used to study the cells. The results showed

that the microvilli of the cells which received the emitted Qi had

remarkably dwendled or disappeard and tiny holes could be seen on

the surface of the cells.

3. The effect of the emitted Qi on the chromosomes of the gastric

adenocarcinoma cells: We repeated the experiment 10 times under

identical conditions. 1420 tumor cells in the control group and 1428

tumor cells which recieved the emitted Qi for 60 minutes were

analyzed. The subdiploid in the control group was 2.11%, the

superdiploid was 0.14%, whereas the subdiploid in the experimental

groups was 3.29% and supertriploid was 0.56%. the statistical

significance in these findings (P<0.05).

The structure of the chromosomes of the gastric adenocarcinoma cells

also vatried. In the experimental group, the total abnormality rate

was 5.39%. The total abnormality rate in the control group was 1.4%.

(P<0.01).

Summary:

Tumor is a common disease which endangers man's life and health. The

study on the effects of the emitted Qi on carcinoma cells,

especially on the study of the structure and the the chromosome is a

material base fo human heredity and a carrier of the genetic

material. the results of our studies showed that the abnormality of

the chromosomes of the gastric adenocarcinoma cells was significant

after they received emitted Qi. The rate of exchange, breaking, and

the dicentromere in the structure of the chromosomes of the gastric

adenocarcinoma cells is increased. The results suggested that the

emitted Qi could kill the chromosomes of the gastric adenocarcinoma

cells. The study may start a new way to cure carcinoma.

Whew!! Now off to treat my patients! Hope there aren't that many

typos. Don't have time to check my work here. Hope this helps you

out, Jason.

Regards, Shanna
