Guest guest
Dear Colleague, I am writing to let you know about some exciting new events planned for next academic year. Over the last three years UCL's Wellcome Trust Centre for the History of Medicine has increasingly invested in the history of Asian medicine. The new MA programme offers a wide range of courses which might interest you, including those in the history of Chinese medicine, the history of Indian medicine and Understanding International Health. With core courses and options in the history of biomedicine the MA will provide an ideal opportunity for the reflective practitioner who is genuinely interested in the nature of their traditions. .. Running through the autumn term there will be an exhibition of treasures taken from the rich and wonderful Asian medical collection at the Wellcome library. This will be held at SOAS Brunei gallery, Asia: Body Mind and Spirit. To coincide with the exhibition at the end of term we will celebrate the launch of the new IASTAM journal Asian Medicine: Tradition and Modernity with a conference at the Brunei gallery. Asian Medicine - Tradition and Modernity will be a multidisciplinary journal aimed at researchers and practitioners of Asian medicine in Asia as well as in Western countries. It makes available in one single publication academic essays that explore the historical, anthropological, sociological and philological dimensions of Asian medicine as well as practice reports from clinicians based in Asia and in Western countries. Next term we also have the second part of the popular History and Culture of Food and Medicine in China with contributions by both Paul Unschuld and Donald Harper For more information, please see our website: www.iastam.org or email me at e.ford Regards Emma
