Look at the world around us. Both exciting creativity, and great danger. If anything, we have greater technology with the potential for great growth, and conversely, great destruction. lon: Human consciousness *isn't* nessecarily more evolved. That should be clear from watching our president interact with Osama. However, human consciousness *is* potentially more evolved for us at the leading edge. ZEV: Your example below is extreme. One doesn't have to immerse in books for fifty years to understand the classics. I find inspiration in one line that lasts me for weeks. There is scholarship at different levels, and we can draw inspiration at whatever level we choose to. You can devote your life to small sections of one classic, such as the Nan Jing, and find infinite variations in clinical application in your own practice. >> Lon: Great! And, I find inspiration in human relationship. A depth of intimacy in a clinical interaction that lasts for weeks. Again, scholarship is great but its NOT a prerequisite for making a revolutionary difference in the life of a patient or on the planet. You like reading books and thinking? Fine. I only take issue with the notion that the most relevent truth is to be found in the past or needs to be referenced to the past. Freedom has no history.
