Guest guest
Dear group, I just received an unsoliciated handbook today on the Essaic herbal remedy. The book lists the herbs in the remedy, quantity, etc. Has anyone heard of this remedy before? It supposedly can help with cancer, MS, lupus, and other major illnesses. It seems to be that if this were true, the cancer community would be all over it. Any comments? Diane Bryson
Guest guest
Diane, From a Chinese medicine point of view, there is no such thing as a panacea, i.e. there is no 'one prescription treats all' approach. Every disease has multiple patterns, each which has to have a unique prescription matched to it in order to be effective. Having said that, the Essiac formula is actually fairly well-crafted for a 'one-size-fits-all' herbal formula. It primarily is composed, from the CM perspective of blood moving medicinals that are cool, and drain heat from the blood. Since blood stasis and blood heat are often aspects of chronic diseases such as cancer, lupus, and MS, it can be helpful in some of those cases. Guest guest
Hi Diane, I learned about essaic in my class on oncology while a second year student at school. Since it is purported to reduce inflammation from all sorts of illnesses/cancer/MS, etc, I ordered some for my own use for a recurring chronic autoimmune illness. Well, I'll tell you that it took me months to recover from the side effects, even though I could only stomach the tea for 3 days. This remedy is EXTREMELY cold in nature, which I suppose *might* be ok for someone who is receiving radiation treatment. However, I suggest you use more caution than I did (good thing I was the guinea pig in my experiment...) if you are going to give this to patients. Do what I didn't do at the time and make sure your diagnosis of pattern is accurate. I certainly learned my lesson by not doing this, and getting carried away by hype! Guest guest
Hi, all, As a followup to this thread, Essaic was created by an RN in Canada about 20+- yrs ago for her cancer patients. Her name is Ciasse, hence the name Essaic. It was the new age rage in southern CA to use as a preventive for various diseases. Don't know much about it's overall efficacy, but it apparently worked for her patients. Have a good summer, Pam Price

Guest guest
Hi Melanie! If you could post a little more detail? What were the side effects? Where you got the essiac, dosage, frequency, etc. etc. Oh, and how is the autoimmune illness after the essiac? At 10:03 AM 7/8/2004, you wrote: >Hi Diane, >I learned about essaic in my class on oncology while a >second year student at school.
