When these phlegm nodules develop heat >> fire toxin, as they sometimes do over

time, they become the type of carbuncles that can be treated with xian fang huo

ming

yin (Bensky & Barolet p. 85) - an internal Rx, but you can apply the dregs

externally.

Another option would be wu wei xiao du yin - for hot and hard lesions.

But I, too, would be interested to hear anyone's experience in treating them

before

they get to this stage. I would think that an internal formula suited to the

pattern,

adding herbs such as xuan shen, hai zao, kun bu, bei mu, etc... and guiding

herbs -

e.g. niu xi for lower extremities - would help.

I recently saw a case similar to this, which started out as those rubbery

nodules but

had become very hot and toxic and painful. In the circumstances I had to treat

it with

whatever was on hand: yin qiao internally, and Spring Wind Golden Yellow

ointment

externally. Also acupuncture - surround the dragon, plus other clear heat, move

blood & qi, and transform phlegm pts. Results were positive and rather dramatic

- I

imagine they would have been more so had I been able to customize herbs.

Yes, small spikes pressed along quite hard but bearable along the skin.

Can be found at most acupuncture suppliers; let me know if you need help

sourcing.

Best wishes
