Guest guest
Hi folks, has anyone heard of a smoking cessation treatment that involves a ONE TIME treatment of using needles in the wrists? If so, which points are used? A patient of mine claimed he received this treatment 5 years ago in Toronto and hasn't had a puff since! Guest guest
Ann, this was a thread a ways back. You can check the archives. Here are some notes I cut and pasted from multiple postings of others. Sorry, no attributions but you can check the archives. Smoking Protocol-- I use the late Dr Sohn's protocol. He used to do stop smoking treatments in his clinic for $250. for one treatment. He taught my husband and myself to do these treatments, and my husband actually took over his smoking clinic for a few years. tx is simple and direct. two points: sweet breath (extra point) and ht 3. You will want to stimulate a deep qi sensation with the needles, the patient should get a metalic taste in the back of their throats (that's when you know the tx is working) needles are retained approximately 25-30 minutes You want the patient to come in desiring a cigarette and not having smoked for at least two hours before tx. that's it....it really works (sorry no differential diagnosis for tx to stop smoking :> ) Ahh....now that was Dr Sohn's 'teaching' part of the protocol. I am not sure of the origins of this extra point --perhaps someone on the list knows of it's history (if it has one aside from Dr Sohn's useage) the point is between the lung and large intestine meridians proximal to Lg #7. There is a very distinct 'finger feel' for practitioners that 'feel' points. (areas of low electrical resistance just feel differently) The point has a tendency to be unique on every individual so it is impossible to say how many tsun from the wrist. sorry. Dr Sohn would test us repeatedly to insure that we could locate this point before being let loose on his patients. Lg= Lung LI= Large Intestine also Diane- mentioned using LI#5. Dr Sohn's point would be closer in anatomical location to LI#6 since it is proximal to Lg #7...... let me know what happens with your tx. We also use patient education....we give each patient a picture of healthy lungs and lungs polluted by smoking- we ask that the patient wraps this picture around their cigarette box as a reminder. For two pack a day or more smokers- we start by making them smoke 'consciously'. meaning that they can do nothing except smoke a cig when they decide to lite up: no phone conversations, no reading, no drinking their favorite beverage...nothing ...all attention on the cigarette....focus on the way it tastes, feels, etc. We request that if they are not enjoying the cigarette that they put it out. In that manner, by the time they come for the actual treatment they have already brought their awareness to the process. robbee We were taught to find the sweets point by going approximately half- way between Lung 7 and LI 5. It sounds like that is about the same location as Robbee is describing. Diane Bryson I think another name for the sweet point is Tim Mee- which is located at the level of Lung 7, proximal to L.I. 5 in a depression between the tendons that make up the anatomical snuffbox.
