P. 55 of the Wu/Wu translation of the Nei Jing states does not use the term

" mai " - either jing luo or xue mai for the lungs. The literal translation is

closer to " the lung assists in spreading to the organs, governs divisions

outward & within. " (xiang 1 chuan 2 zhi1 guan1, zhi4 jie3 chu1 yan1). I'm sure

someone could do a better translation of it.

In Su Wen 23, it specifically states that the Heart controls / masters the

vessels (xin1 zhu3 mai4).

Hi Anne,

I like the Wu/Wu translation since it provides a sense of smooth

continuity between the different energetic aspects of the body as

opposed to hard lines of demarcation. This, I believe, is more

relective of the Eastern medical philosophy. In my opinion, it is

quite reasonable to suggest that the seat of " breath " (the lung) is

connected to all channels (it must be) and because of this it " governs

the health " of these channels. This is what I actually experience in

qigong and taiji practice.

However, for those who are more comfortable with hard lines of

demarcation, there are certainly translations that will suit this

purpose also. Literal translations of decidely non-literal concepts

are, in my opinion, always problematic and highly subjective.

Regards,

Rich

Also most obviously, blood vessels intimately arise from cardiac tissue at

their

origin, maintain the same structure microanatomically, and finally drain

back

into the heart organ as the vena cavae.
