Guest guest
Hi Pam, As indicated, Tony Young is the chief legal counsel for AHPA. I was quoting from a conversation that I'd heard today. My friend Curt Jacquot, owner of Pacific Biologic and a member of AHPA, called Tony to verify this information and his statement resulted. I reported to you what Tony said. You, too, can call Tony though I suppose it's best if you do so as a member of AHPA or in the company with an AHPA member. AHPA is advising it's membership to proceed with the use of ma huang according to the labeling and distribution guidelines mentioned. So verification of Tony's words should be done through AHPA. Curt Jacquot needed to obtain this verification because he has a whole line of formulas for practitioner use, some of which contain ma huang. Dr. Ping Qi Kang where I work collaborated with the formulations and indicated that there really was no reasonable substitute for the ma haung in Curt's practitioner formulas. The same question came up regarding ban xia, and Dr. Kang suggested using tian nan xing. However, he also correctly noted that the ban xia that we supply for many formulas is not Pinellia Rhizome. Rather it is a Shui Ban Xia (Typhonium) that is considerably less toxic and easier to use in formulations. As indicated a stronger effect could be achieved with the addition of tian nan xing, but Dr. Kang further notes that formulas have their own power apart from individual herb functions. Thus, he indicates that there is broad success using the shui ban xia in the formulas that he collaborated in formulating. I hope this answers your questions and gives context to my comments.
