Guest guest
Hi, my name is Rhonda. I am a 1st year TCM student. TCM has helped me with my food allergies and general health. I also have a graduate degree in biochemistry. I am writing a research paper for a TCM class on lupus. I would like some help finding resources on treating lupus/autoimmune diseases with TCM (books, articles, etc.). I would also be interested in any information gained from personal experiences treating autoimmune diseases using TCM. Thank you. Guest guest
Hi Rhonda, More than 10 years ago, a remarkable woman made an appeal to an acupuncture organization I was involved with for help with starting an Acupuncture/Lupus referral network. Some years before, she had been given less than 6 months to live due to her lupus. She went to an acupuncturist who brought the condition completely under control. She was so amazed by this, she decided to dedicate herself to educating lupus patients to the value of acupuncture/Oriental medicine. She was trying to identify as many acupuncturists as she could who had experience treating lupus and then try to pool their knowledge to develop a protocol for treating lupus that would form the basis of a certification program. Once the certification program was set up, she would refer patients to these acupuncturists who were certified in treating lupus. I tried to help her form this program but, unfortunately, we had trouble finding enough acupuncturists who had treated lupus to establish the protocol as she had envisioned it. I tried to tell her that a well trained acupuncturists/TCM practitioner, would not necessarily have needed to have seen many lupus patients per se, as the necessary skill is in doing a good differential diagnosis. I lost track of her over time but always felt bad that she was unable to get this project she felt so passionately about operational. It was very inspirational to see a patient go to such lengths to try to help people appreciate the potential value of acupuncture/OM. - Matthew - R.
