Hi All,

Today I had unexpected news from one of my patients. He's come

initially 6 months back because after a year of no results from WM

he'd hoped I might alliviate the pain in his Knee. When I suggested

I might do away with the problem altogether he was like a man hoping

for a sandwitch and gettting a 3 course meal instead.

The news though is not his knee which amongs a number of complaints

I fixed within 5 sessions, but rather how, in view of recent events

in the news in england, of cholesterol reducing tablets to be made

available over the counter in pharmacies as well as recent posting

on the use of orange peel to help with cholesterol, I thought I

would share this recent snipet.

At no stage did I have a focus my patient's cholesterol levels but

today he said that he'd just been to the hospital and that for the

1st time in years his Cholesterol levels are totally normal the same

applies to his blood pressure which previoulsy was quite high.

How is this possible? Cholesterol is a natural production of the

liver, In this case I have been sedating his LU and tonifying his GB

I assume that the Excess LU was affecting the LIV and so in

rectifying the LU imbalance so the the LIV funcntion also improved.

Which for me, elegantly shows, how if one accurately diagnoses and

treats Roots most dysharmonies will slowly (or not so slowly) come

back into balance.

what does it mean to go for a root treatment?

1st of all it requires an acknoledgement that illness is mainly the

result of been unable to flow with the feelings that we experience

as we move and relate with others in life. To be more explecit it is

usually a narrow range of feelings that the individual will be

unable to fully express. This should come as no surprise as Daoist

teachings continually remind us of the relationship between emotions

and the Internal Organs.

2nd the principle of cause and effect. Most of us who tread the

path of healing have read literature that exposes us to this

principle. Yet how easily we forget. A patient comes in with lets

see.. how about macular degeneration? and we leave these 2

principles behind. Instead we look for acupuncture points that we

can use on any one with these symptoms hoping to help.

Yet we pay lip service to the uniqueness of our system and the

individual, we pride ourselves on how different we are from WM.

Humm..... I am not so sure.

Every person with 'macular degeneration' lovely name so meaningful

tells me so much about the patient I feel confident that if I roll

the name around my tongue a few times and then stick a few needles

around the eyes I will do lots of good....

Patient symptoms are useful guidelines but they are not the cause of

the disturbance. and so if we treat according to symptoms we are

going to create as many problems as we solve, beause simply put, we

are not treating the individual person.

Ofcourse, even if you were to agree with my premises, you still need

to find out what Root means in terms of applicable theory.. WE are

acupuncturists we learn about meridians and how interconnected they

are with organs. Perhaps part of the answer lies here?

What if premise 1 were to have an impact on a specific meridian?

since it flows through the whole body it might affect an internal

organ perhaps a range of muscles, facias, tendons?. It might even

affect a hormonal gland or two.

As we are undoubtedly dedicated to the eastern princliples

of 'relationships in all things' it is conceivable that this

distorted 'Root' meridian is, via structure, having an effect on

another muscular structure -meridian ?

Hey I could call this a Branch, damm what if this branch is causing

the weakening in the eye muscles....Humm...I wonder, if I get busy

with this branch will it fix the eye?.. Damm this relationships

what's going to happen if I shake this branch?......

Ok, so I shant give up my day job and get busy writting a book just

yet. :)
