Fundamental Theory of Western and Eastern Medicine

Hi,

One of the issues that I have with Western Medicine, is that it does

not seem to have a fundamental theory underlying its practice. As near

as I can make out, there seems to be a number of goals, but no theory.

The goals might be stated as such:

1) Determine abnormalities and surgically remove them.

2) Determine unwanted symptoms and search for a pharmaceutical that

will suppress these symptoms in a large population (the double-blind

study).

3) Suggest a potential pathogen and kill it using powerful drugs.

4) Suggest health situations are unmanageable so tell the patient that

there is nothing that can be done and the patient will die shortly.

Using the above approaches, most often there is no cure - but instead

suppression of disease.

There seems to be several potential theories underlying the Eastern

approach to health and cure. I was wondering if other practitioners

would mind sharing with me the fundamental theory that they use in

their practice. My theory is such:

The body will be in good health and be able to continually maintain

good health if:

1) Qi is freely flowing within the body.

2) Qi is flowing from outside of the body to inside of the body in

such a way that it promotes free flow of Qi within the body.

The above process permits the body to maintain its own structure

(manifestation) and a healthful interaction between Itself and the

outside world. The reason I have adopted this viewpoint is because:

1) It is simple so that anyone - including a patient can easily adopt

it as a model.

2) It seems to provide the best overall results and explanation best

upon my experiences.

3) It conforms to the original texts that I have read in many

different aspects of Eastern culture.

I welcome comments and other ideas.

Regards,

Rich
