Tuina and knee pain

Dear folks,

 

Thanks to all for the advice and information on manual techniques for knee

pain. I will try them and see if it helps.

Jason, she is 77 years old, so I don't think she has been running recently.

However, her kneecap is positioned just as you describe it. Thanks for the

advice.

The medical term is Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome, commonly known as

Runner's Knee, because the majority of cases are seen in runners who

like to run on roads -- roads (at least in the US and other Western

countries) are higher in the center and lower at the lateral edges to

allow drainage. Road runners will runn on the road near the gutter

putting undue strain usually on their outermost leg (usually their right

one). I suffered from it a little myself not so long ago, and would get

shooting pains in my right knee after sitting or standing for a long

time. Exercise, joint movement and some massage helped me out, although

too many years of ballistic stretches and kicks certainly don't help.
