Guest guest
Thank you for sharing this information Stephen. Since we've been considering moving back to Australia when I finish TCM school (I will be starting this fall), this info is very helpful. I'm curious, which state is it that has the registration board in place, and is there any indication of when the other states will follow suit? Best wishes, Andrea
Guest guest
Hi Andrea, The state of Victoria is the only state that has currently initiated registration. New South Wales seems to be very close to this also.....however, this has been the case for some time. Other states are looking into it seriously as well. National registration in all states may occur here by 2008. The Victorian board has strict educational requirements and standardization of TCM education is very close to finalization in other states here also. As can be seen be some of the tension between professional groups on this list; an un-united approach can hinder rather than help TCM practitioners reach their goals in terms of recognition as professionals. This is also the case to a lesser degree in Australia where one association in particular has taken it upon themselves to insist that they are the only ones that know how everything should be done. They have only succeeded in slowing the process for themselves!! The Registration Board of Victoria has a website where many of the official documents regarding application, educational requirements, the bill itself etc can be downloaded. If interested, I encourage you to surf the site a bit. A good place to start is:- http://www.cmrb.vic.gov.au/registration/registration.html Best Wishes, Steve On 17 Apr 2004, at 4:03 AM, Ai An Meng wrote: > Thank you for sharing this information Stephen. Guest guest
Thanks Steve! I had a strong feeling it was Victoria. It is the most progressive State in many respects. As we're considering eventually moving back to Melbourne, this is very good news, indeed. <<<The Victorian board has strict educational requirements and standardization of TCM education is very close to finalization in other states here also.>>> That's very good to hear. I'm very frustrated by MD's who are allowed to practice TCM and acupuncture with minimal training and little if any actual skill. As you said, its not their own profession that they reflect poorly upon. <<<an un-united approach can hinder rather than help TCM practitioners reach their goals in terms of recognition as professionals.>>> I agree. Only by working together can we have a voice loud enough to be heard. As the old analogy goes, *if you're too busy bickering amongst yourselves, how can you expect those in charge to take you seriously?!* Why is it that we can so easily understand this when it comes to children, and not when it comes to ourselves as adults?! <<<The Registration Board of Victoria has a website where many of the official documents regarding application, educational requirements, the bill itself etc can be downloaded. If interested, I encourage you to surf the site a bit. >>> I'm most definitely interested. Thanks for the link! Oh, I was meaning to ask you, where in Australia are you?
