Guest guest
Glad to see this come up in discussion here. AE is the first treatment given a new patient in Five Element practice - remove bad qi (which does indeed spread across the K'e cycle) before beginning to move energy around. I recently did one on a patient who felt she had lost all energy, felt almost immobilised, unable to think clearly. She had AE in Lu and Pc that took 1 and 1/2 hours to clear. After the treatment her pulses went from almost imperceptible to -1 - and continue to hold there. Karen Persis wrote: > Hello again > Indeed, the test is the treatment. Guest guest
I don't want to do this wrong. Does one insert needles and wait? Till any redness clears? Dr. Holmes Keikobad MB BS DPH Ret. Guest guest
Needles go in very shallow - about the depth if you use the guide tube to tap them in. They should almost hang off the back. If redness shows up it should show up bilaterally; otherwise you haven't located both points properly. Put in a 'dummy needle' - one beside the shu points that isn't in a point, between both Bl lines - so that you can be sure redness isn't just the skin's normal reaction to a needle. (If redness shows around the dummy needle it is probably skin reaction, tho some practitioners will leave needles in if redness shows around point and dummy needle.) One dummy needle in each jiao (Upper, Middle, Lower). If redness shows around the shu points, leave needles in until all redness disappears. This can take 20 minutes to hours. If you have to finish the session before the redness clears, repeat the treatment at the next session. In fact, if you find AE and it clears in one treatment, test for it again at the beginning of the next treatment. We are taught that AE can be very serious, as it is a form of toxic qi in a zang organ, and can be transferred around the K'e cycle by the practitioner in subsequent treatments.
