With acupuncture, points are often better suited to disease location and depth. It seems to me that the relevant wuestion here is not the presence or absence of phlegm, but the location and origin of the phlegm. Think the technique is Japanese in origin although I don't know for sure. I've also found that an erythema may not show up but the patient will still feel " lighter, released of stuffiness in the chest " and a general sense of well being can prevail. *Aggressive Energy can build up from various factors that comprise our daily lives... everything from antibiotics to pollutants and pathogens, toxins or the residues of emotional struggles. I often see it as a spiritual cleansing as well as a more physical clearing of energy that can otherwise block treatment - so i often do this as a first of second treatment in most cases. Needles should be retained for as long as the redness shows, so sometimes this may mean more than one session depending on how much toxicity that patient presents.
