how does one treat phlegm when some element of Fire has already become

apparent?

one way is to tone up SP, and reduce ST 40; subsidiary point SP 9.

any feedback?

With Herbs, substances are prescribed based on symptoms and

diagnosis. With acupuncture, points are often better suited to

disease location and depth. It seems to me that the relevant wuestion

here is not the presence or absence of phlegm, but the location and

origin of the phlegm. Only with these questions resolved can

acupoints be meaningfully selected.

Persis says: Dr K, perhaps I would also ask " to which degree is the higher

need: to carry out simple clearing treatments only for a while or to tonify

spleen at the end of each of those treatments or to just treat the causative

factor (CF) or one of the five elements perhaps or just to tonify the

spleen...? " all a question of degree and to a large extent indicated by

specific degrees of symptoms within the zang fu (TCM) syndromes and largely

by the practitioners own judgement of the set of symptoms.

Often found the carrying out an Aggressive Energy treatment works wonders.

Hello Dr K

AE Drain or AE Taps as they are often called is a test

where you check a new patient for Aggressive Energy*. You

do this by inserting needles VERY superficially (no deqi)

in the 6 Yin organ Back Shu points for ten minutes, in the

following order:

Bl13 Lung

Bl14 Pericardium (if AE shows on Pc Bl14, include He Bl15)

(Bl15)Heart

Bl18 Liver

Bl20 Spleen

Bl23

If A.E. is present you will find a deep crimson red around

the needle. A light red may only indicate heat.

Hello Dr K

AE Drain or AE Taps as they are often called is a test

where you check a new patient for Aggressive Energy*.

Think the technique is Japanese in origin although I don't

know for sure.

AE drain is done by inserting needles VERY superficially

(no deqi) in the 6 Yin organ Back Shu points for ten

minutes, in the following order:

Bl13 Lung

Bl14 Pericardium (if AE shows on Pc Bl14, include He Bl15)

(Bl15)Heart

Bl18 Liver

Bl20 Spleen

Bl23 Kidney

If A.E. is present you will find a deep crimson red around

the needle. A light red may only indicate heat. I've also

found that an erythema may not show up but the patient will

still feel " lighter, released of stuffiness in the chest "

and a general sense of well being can prevail.

*Aggressive Energy can build up from various factors that

comprise our daily lives... everything from antibiotics to

pollutants and pathogens, toxins or the residues of

emotional struggles. I often see it as a spiritual

cleansing as well as a more physical clearing of energy

that can otherwise block treatment - so i often do this as

a first of second treatment in most cases.

Didn't mean to drone on so hope this helps.

Remarkable.

If there is a tell tale redness, what should one do?

Or is it that the test is also the treatment?

Btw I am much enamored of the Japanese techniques and this is very

interesting.

Hello again

Indeed, the test is the treatment. Needles should be

retained for as long as the redness shows, so sometimes

this may mean more than one session depending on how much

toxicity that patient presents.

Know what you mean about the Japanese focus, interesting

and often inspiring.

Kind regards

Thank you.

Found a pattern to the points which might interest you.

These points have a Ko restraining cycle relationship to the points which

follow:

1. Bl14 Pericardium & He Bl15 to Bl13 Lung

2. Bl23 Kidney to Bl15 Heart

3. Bl18 Liver to Bl20 Spleen

Read in a heavy duty Tongue Diagnosis tract that in distressing times the

Warmers

take on the characteristics of the Elements they hold.

In which sense we have:

1. Fire restrains Metal

2. Water restrains Fire

3. Wood restrains Earth.

Wow!
